Have you ever wondered what the best way is to ripen an avocado? In this video, Julia tries a number of different techniques from across the web to find out which ones work, which ones don't and which one is the best. If you like our videos it really helps us if you like/comment/subscribe.

Avocados never seem to be ripe when you need them. Today, I've got 5 really green avocados and am going to find out the fastest way to ripen them. First, I'm going to place an avocado in a windowsill. Second, I'm placing an avocado in a brown paper bag with an apple and banana, then placing it on a windowsill. Third, I'm placing an avocado in a paper bag with a 1/2 cup of flower, then on a windowsill. Fourth, I'm wrapping an avocado in tinfoil and heating it up in an oven. Fifth, I'm wrapping an avocado in tinfoil and heating it up with a hairdryer. Which one will work and which one will fail? Watch to find out.

Keeping the Avo in the dark, is what works! I just select mine slightly under ripe, take them home put them in a drawer in my kitchen. Following day, or day after, ripe and ready to eat. No fuss, simples! Thanks

I baked my avocado and it turned out FINE!
It was soft, the flavor was not so different from the natural riped one. (of course not as yummy as usual but i dont have high expectation :)))
Try bake it at low heat, 100-105*C for 15-45 minute (after 15 minute, check it whether it'll need more time).

Thanks for the informative video, I think I'm going to try one of the paper bag methods.

Wrap them in a plastic/paper bag, put that bag in a bowl, and put that bowl in a place that gets no sunlight, like a cupboard. Two nights, and mine went from green and hard to ripe and ready. Also, when you’re pressing an avocado to see whether it’s soft, press near the top so you’re not squishing the nice part

On the tin foil method, heat at only 200F for 10 minutes. Allow to cool completely. Perfect.

here in the Philippines, we put avocado into rice, and ready after 2-3 days

traditionally we ripen raw and hard fruits such as custard apple by keeping them in flour bucket or jar and take them out in 2 to 3 days. Never thought of trying avocado though, will definitely give it a shot.

I can usually find ripe avocados at the store but today all I found were green hard underripe ones. I’ve been searching for something that works less than a day. Everything (besides cooking them) takes way longer. On a hunch I left the avocados in the plastic bag you put them in for purchase at the store and set it outside in the sun. Twisted bag closed. It’s high 80s here today. After several hours they are nice and soft. Making guacamole tonight. Glad I tried my own theory.

Hi, any suggestion on how to deal with underripe avocado that was cut open? it's hard & crunchy & not as yummy as ripe... in fact, do not really taste good.

I just bought an avocado fruit for the first time in my life. I've had avocado shakes before in restaurants but never bought the fruit myself. So, this video has been quite helpful. Just FYI, I am wrapping mine in a paper bag and leaving it near the window and will report how it goes after 3-4 days (hopefully, I will remember to do so).
