THERES A REASON FOR IT LEMME EXPLAIN: so back in the dinosaur days brachiopods loved eating avocados and would eat mountains of them. Now that’s fine until you realize they used to be the size of a 6 foot man. Now these fruit had to find a way to reproduce so they developed pits bigger than your head that these brachiopods would spit out since they were to big and hard to eat. During the ice age a new species found them. Homosapiens. Us. And we began growing small avocados since they didn’t need to be the size of boulders. If not for out ice age ancestors avocados were supposed to go extinct.

The pit is that big because ground sloths were the main consumers of the avocado around the last ice age, then they died off. So luckily humans loved avocado just as much as ground sloths so they started cultivating them. If not, they would have gone extinct along with the ground sloths because they were the ones who spread the seeds.
