Can you use regular fuel in your Mercedes ? .. real time knock test

As an addendum to this vid I have gone through 2 tanks of regular during my daily commute . MPG with regular is at least 15% lower than with the premium I generally use . This is most likely due to the use of ethanol in regular and mid grade fuel, and zero ethanol is the premium I usually buy . The gas station I fill up with gives me 7 cents per litre discount on premium when their credit card is used. Combined with a 15% better mileage with premium, I actually save $ using premium . Premium fuel is approx 15% more $ than regular. Take away the 7 cents a litre discount and the difference is 8% . (at this time regular fuel is approx .98 cents per litre ..premium is $1.11 per litre ) average fuel usage on winter gas (winter gas has worse mpg due to anti gelling agents in fuel) in KM per litre (not Litres per 100 km ) is 9.3 with premium mostly highway = approx 23mpg . on regular fuel last 2 tanks, same conditions ..average KM per litre has been approx 8.1 . around 20.8 mpg. On premium around town I get the same MPG as regular on the highway. Again this is likely mostly due to ethanol in the regular gasoline . Not true science I know ..Just a reminder that using rewards cards at gas stations can allow you to use premium more economically than using regular.

I have a 2012 c250. I put in 89 and 91 gas. I switch it up every now and then. No problems for me so far. Currently at 80k miles.

Thank you very much sir. I’m a broke new grad, yet I received a 2003 Mercedes CLK from my grandmother. I feel ridiculously lucky, and I never owned a car (I’m 30), but a free car is a free car. It’s still however a 91 octane gas car and in my country, this is very expensive. I read a lot about the risks of trying 87 octane, but I thank you for doing an actual testing.

I use a mix.... 50:50 of kerosene and jet fuel. It runs great for 2 to 3 minutes, then it needs a full engine rebuilt, which can be frustrating if you need to drive your car more than 1 or 2 miles.

If it says 'recommended' then you can use any type of gas but performance might take a hit. If its 'required' then its advisable not to use anything else. That's the way I see it.

Depending on where you live, most ppl are unaware of the problems underground storage tanks the gas stations use add, adding another variable in the equation.
In my city many gas stations are old, the tanks leak and water accumulates diluting the gas stored, lowering the octane.
Most gas stations do nothing until multiple cars fail in a day. The costs are so high that they rarely get replaced. To compound the problem most lots used as gas stations are unable to be reused for other purposes until decades have past due to environmental contamination. So if your town is cash poor, it may look the other way to ensure revenue.
Use new gas stations whenever possible.

If u have literally any car made in the last 5 years they all have sensors which adjust timing so it doesn't matter it's just slight acceleration differences

I did this with my 98 m112 engine for a summer and after about 2k miles it definitely was running differently. I then let it run nearly dry, then filled with 93 octane, and everything was fine again.

Yeah in my opinion if your manual says use a certain gas just do it..i understand people wanting to save money but in the longer term if it damages your engine overtime your gonna spend 10x as much getting repairs then you would have paid 4 extra dollars for the gas it requires. Same thing with your health if you eat shitty to save money then youll be spending more money on medical bills in the future for health issues that could have been avoided. We spend so much money on junk food and other crap but we wont spend an extra 4$ on a quality gas thatll help keep our vehicle running in good shape that it requires i dont get people I really dont.

I own a 2010 E350 and 2013 ML350. BOTH knock hard when running on regular. It's a distinct pinging noise when higher RPM. Terrible, I only run premium now. Knock never came back

I had been using regular gas in my mercedes for years. It’s at like 200k miles now. Just yesterday I noticed the gas lid says PREMIUM ONLY. I am going to try premium once to see if i notice a difference but i doubt it… interesting video tho

I noticed that there's a slight knock with lower grade only when the guy floors it on an uphill. Most of us won't drive that way.
Also, if you allow the car to get used to regular gas, it will make the proper adjustment to be able to take it although you could lose a bit in performance. I never had any issue using regular on my 2004.

I put Costco's regular in my E550 M273 engine.

Under heavy load I hear pinging like crazy...I will run octane booster until I finish tank and run out of regular .. 93 octane is a must in these cars if car wil be driven..

If you never do heavy acceleration like you said ..you will not experience pre detonation.
