How Provisionism Distorts the Meaning of God's Grace

I would again direct this not only toward provisionists, but independent fundamental Baptists who like to listen to this kind of argumentation against Reformed Theology thinking this is actually sound – this is vitally important. It is the basis on which you are saved.

Are you saved because God has chosen to show you, a wretched sinner, mercy out of His love, or are you saved because you did something that would move God to grant you salvation? If grace is demanded from God, it ceases to be grace. Whether as a Roman Catholic you go through the entire sacramental system to earn it, or as an independent fundamental Baptist you pray a sinner’s prayer to ask for it, it is no longer grace, but reward from God. And to insist that God is obligated to show mercy to every single sinner against God and His Holiness is the pinnacle of man’s arrogance.

And just to prevent the common argument - God would never refuse to show mercy to those who come to Him in true repentance and faith. Man in his carnal mind is dead in sin, having his will enslaved by sin, and unable to come to God. That is the state of every single human being upon birth. So, if it were up to man to chose out of his own enslaved will to come to God for salvation, no one would ever be saved. That is where grace comes in. It is God who acts first in that sinner (out of His own will, and not because that sinner has done anything to deserve it), draws him to himself, brings spiritual birth and regeneration which as the inevitable result has this born again sinner coming to God in repentance and faith. Read John 6, Romans 8-9, Ephesians 1. And since not everyone will be saved, it is clear that God does this only to some people - the elect.

I invite you to listen to the entire program, as well as download and read the book linked below, and do so carefully and with an open mind seeking to understand what Reformed Theology actually teaches.

“If you don't start with divine revelation of who God is, and then move downward to His creature, you will always end up with falsehood about the creature and God. That's the beginning of every heresy.” – James White
