You may want to bridge the gap at the top of the chain link fence. If a cat gets in between the two, you’ll have a problem. Love the fence.

I wouldn't keep the 2x4s but I would keep the 4x4s and hang lights from them. I think it would look really cool over the pool and patio

Funny thing, my house has a wooden fence on 3 replacing it 3x over the 33 years that I have lived there, I am ready to replace it with a chain link once and NEVER

What if you left them painted black and put lights on the post with a hanging light on top 😊

You can use shepherd hooks to hang up lights, and cut the 2×4 off

Keep the post 6 inches above the fence height for a proper reveal. Then add lights to those, I'd also apply end cut treatment to all those cuts if you're not capping the fence

How are you going to stain it with the chain link fence you attached it to in front of it? Are you not? Won't it just gray n increase the aging process without the stain?

Don't worry about the length. It won't last long enough to matter anyway. Those posts will rot I give it 8 years. Fence starts to lean.... yeah. Metal posts ANY TIME YOU DO A FENCE. I'm a woman, that's only done one fence but. The fence I re did was done LIKE THIS. and we'll they were rotted...and yeah. Eventually the cement will Carode the wood and the moisture from the ground will rot it. Oh well huh.

Did you get a permit for the wooden fence or did the city allow you to build it without a permit because you didn't take down the original fence.
