How Low Can Our Resolution Go?

Playing games in 4K is great, but 1080p is good too! But how low can those numbers go before the game we are rendering is literally unplayable?

Should've stretched it and see if it remains playable that way

I didn't know President Lincoln was into video games. Well, I learnt something new today.

not a single person on earth has ever downscaled a game like this. you play it in full screen mode

It's crazy to think about how many pixels the cursor on a modern display takes up

You have forgotten the classic 1024x768 or 800x600, from the time of 17" and 15" CRT monitors.

I remember watching shows ~20 years ago on a mp4 player with a 2" 220х176 screen, getting a pda with a 3.5" 320x240 later was a huge upgrade

It's nice to see Linus hiring the Amish.

If you want to check low resolutions, you could check on people's new-year's resolutions and how and whether they implement them.

Those aren't comparative screen sizes. That 4k monitor has a higher pixel density (dpi), so it fits more pixels in the same area (or same # of pixels in a smaller area). So the WiiU, PSP, DS, etc... screens were actually larger than what they showed on the screen.

I think it’s important to note the size of the pixels on the screens the older games were made for were larger and it didn’t actually look like that size in real life

The reason why its more difficult to see is the simple fact that on higher resolution monitor each pixel is so much closer together where otherwise same pixels would be much easily distinguishable on a lower resolution monitor.

Well, pixel art games from the 90s and 80s were a blast... So much that I became a pixel artist (I mean, at companies) back in the day due to nostalgy of the arcade machines. Also, the emulators world has been a thing for a long time, and I was beyond happy to realize the great taste of many indy game developers vibing with such art style. Also as it saves a ton of work (or cost) in art compared to doing full blown 3D assets. It makes sense to play those games, but scaled up full screen with no blur, like it was played in those arcade machines. Just like wrinkles and some grey hair on us Gen X, fat pixels are beautiful. 320x200 screens rulez.

I'm amazed by the longevity of 1080p. It's like people don't care about resolutions higher than 4K, They start care more about refresh rate.

This is definitely the type of content I love from LTT, it has absolutely zero value in terms of knowledge or making a difference in my life, but it's for sure something I love watching! hahahahahaha

Did you try the holy resolution? 640x480. I heard it was gifted to us by a divine power

Now I want to see a Gameboy screen that has your 4K mouse cursor on it

They forgot to mention that pixels also used to be the size of a small house….

Now try mechanical television (30 lines of resolution from the original 1927 standard)

You should enable aspect ratio scaling mode and show the blur rather then show it with black bars.

LTT saying "frag" is like my mom saying "cool beans"
