Igniting Hope: Surgeries Continue!

Watch the excitement as surgeries commence on the #GlobalMercy in #SierraLeone. It took a huge community effort to ready the hospital ship for this milestone, so the air was filled with celebration as Sahr, the very first patient, received surgery.

The 32-year-old police officer was diagnosed with inguinal hernia. He first noticed what looked like a boil in his lower stomach when he was 20 years old, which often left him experiencing debilitating discomfort when eating or sitting.

Thanks to #SafeSurgery, Sahr’s hope of a better life devoid of pain was ignited after only an hour in the operating room. Crewmembers on board are excited to witness and contribute to more lifesaving and life-transforming surgeries over the coming 10 months.
