Pokemon Theory: The Origins of Shiny Pokemon In today's video I cover the topic of where Shiny Pokemon originated from, and I have come up with some evidence to support that it was Earthbound.

I’m 30 and this is the first time I’ve actually seen gameplay footage of Earthbound 😬

Recolors are a very common enemy trope in rpgs but I'm not sure what game the trend first started.

This actually makes good sense, as a lot of ideas from the Mother series were recycled in Pokémon. For those of you who don't know, APE Inc., one of the companies behind EarthBound, later became Creatures Inc., which has been co-developing the mainline Pokémon games since they began.
My guess is that they looked at the palette swapped enemies in EarthBound and wanted to do something similar in Pokemon but incentivize it by making them rare and admirable rather than making it a common enemy that's just a stronger version of its predecessor.

I guess the different colors could be one thing, but I didn't even think about the odds of finding a shiny being compared to the odds of finding the sword of kings.

Yo I loved these theories ever since I started watching protomario 4years now I wish YouTube wasn’t so broken and would have gave you the exposure you deserve hopefully this new channel can do that

I agree with the general premise but I don't think shinies or anything else are necessarily inspired by Earthbound or the Mother series as a whole.

Its just as you said, its a combination of common RPG mechanics. Shinies could just as easily be inspired by Dragon Quest, which was a well known inspiration for Pokemon. Rare drops in DQ III was directly attributed to trading, so it stands to reason differently colored Pokemon was an extension of that.

Because pallet swapped enemies are super common in video games

I think this makes sense. No such thing as a completely original idea.
Base idea leads to tons and tons of derivatives and derivatives of derivatives like a ton of Undertale clones.
Doesn't make them bad. It allows creativity.
Anyway, nice theory

You should so some theories about shadow pokemon on this channel. I know the older stuff from like pokemon Colosseum but with pokemon go centralising shadow pokemon it might be a good topic to cover? Maybe dark link is a shadow pokemon 😅 lol or whatever makes shadow pokemon can effect any Nintendo character... 🤔🤔🤔 imagine a shadow trainer an evil red on mt silver would have been epic.

2:33 it isn't almost like that, that quite literally is what that is like

Lol... so anything that had different colored variants is a precursor to shiny pokemon... this is the shittiest theory...

Honestly the Channel name should’ve been Pokémon theory since that’s what you do the most anyways and also pokestuff looks like poke stuff which can be interpreted gayly
