I never let my car idle. When I come to a stop, I put it in neutral and floor it. This not only increases water pump flow velocity but it speeds up the cooling fan ( non electric).

Why dreaming of having a car is bad for your car’s engine

You're the first person I've heard suggesting using N and foot lightly on the brake when stopped at intersections or any other situation where idling is necessary. I've done this for many years and the few times I've suggested it to others (in very hot conditions especially), they think it's just one of my quirks. It's not a quirk. It makes sense. Being gentle to mechanical systems pays off in longevity and dependability.
