This is pre-facial recognition. Back when I was a graduate student, a coed was attacked in the women’s room in the building in which I had my office. Fortunately, I was at a bar with a lot of witnesses who knew me well, because the police drawing published in the school paper looked exactly like me down to the hair cut and beard trim. Now this is computerized. Quite scary.

It's been well established that facial recognition fails when it come to black people but the continue to use it. Depending where you are they don't have to tell they used facial recognition to ID you.

It is not the fault of the facial recognition program, that the police officer did not tell him what the charges were, or arrested him before asking him for an alibi. Facial recognition should be used the same way a witness identification is, it needs to be verified, treated as a lead, not proof. Further, the AI needs better training, with many more instances of black and female faces, since they still do poorly in that area.

Facial recognition is a misnomer. Computers CANNOT "recognize" people. This infers intelligence. Computers can only make calculations. The technology uses an algorithm to compare a series of measurements of facial features with those in a database of millions of images (arrest photos, for example).
Often, the images used are grainy image capture from video cameras taken at oblique angles using wide angle lenses. The source material is distorted to the point of uselessness.
We need to recognize that there is no actual "recognition" taking place here, and that it is CALCULATION - based on erroneous input.
