Travis, I moved into new construction 4 weeks ago. The builder laid out dormant Bermuda back in January 5th. The new sod is 3 months old, I see it’s growing and it’s green but I see weeds here and there.

I am just wondering what fertilizer to put in. Either go with Scott’s weed and feed, Scott’s 27-0-2, 10-10-10, or go with Milorganite. What you you recommend?

Good morning to you. I know the feeling of living out of cardboard decor. I moved 8 times while I was in the Coast Guard. The best thing about it is you get to unpack on the other side and it’s a little like Christmas but you get the exact same stuff. Any chance you’ll be taking a soil sample prior to laying sod? Good luck on the move. Pizza is always the dinner first day of unpacking for us. Happily retired and not moving anymore. 😁

Hey bro sorry about the delays. I look at it this way. You have been living out of boxes all this time while many people live in boxes. Now that is something to be grateful for this Thanksgiving. :)

Good luck with everything! It stinks that it’s taken this long. Excellent tips on the sod. Everything is going to pop!

I put down St Augustine in late fall at my very 1st house and it thrived! Happy thanksgiving and hope the next closing date actually happens. Anxiously awaiting to see the new digs!

Great video! I just got into a new house a couple years ago and I wish everyday I would have go through before hand and cleaned up the bricks and bigger rocks and also through down a thin layer of quality topsoil/compost and do a little leveling. Just an idea and would make a great video! Keep up the good work!

Ps: I actually found an entire shovel under my sod last season and beer cans and trash. It would have just made me feel so much better or just a few hours work lol

I know this is late, but I have a question for you, Travis. Do you do soil tests before dropping that organic fert? Or is it just nitrogen heavy no matter what

Thanks so much Travis! Love watching your videos and I’m sorry to hear about the delay in moving. Me and my wife actually just moved into a new construction home this week in Charlotte with dormant sod that was laid. I am looking forward to following you during the process. I did have one question in relation to the new grass, the builder has not leveled the ground/grass very well and i am concerned with how uneven it is. Wanted to know if you had any thoughts on solutions. I know it is impossible to be perfectly level, i was just hoping to make the best of the situation

I assume you have clay soil in your TX location. This is a great time to bring in some sand and biochar to condition the soil. It’s fairly cheap to do, it’s a better option than trying to top dress later and it will help the sod establish. Also, running a drag before the sod is laid will help level the lawn and loosen the soil for root establishment (again, easier to do now than after the sod is down). Good luck.

0-0-50 over the winter… as much product per k as you wish to out out… it will help in the spring 1000%

In the spring 0-20-20…. P & K will be the most important think you’ll apply to get the turf established….

Travis, you have a good attitude about this craziness. Can't worry about things you can't control. Can't wait to see that Bermuda thrive in the summer. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
