While the Left's body-positivity movement fights fatphobia, we must stay grounded in truth: being fat is not healthy.

As a lifelong sports coach, fitness trainer and Phys. Ed teacher, this fat positivity movement has been a total nightmare for me. There is no way to be obese AND healthy. Sorry but that's the truth.

As a boy who trying to lose weight (60lb down, lot more to go) I desperately want these people to shut up. Stop promoting self harm, depression, and loneliness.

What's so awful about NOT wanting to be in a relationship with someone who disregards their health and appearance?

I remember when it started out as a motivation for people with disabilities that couldn't change their body no matter what. Now it's motivation for people to NOT change their body no matter what. Something really really wrong happened somewhere in between. Yes, we are all beautiful the way we are - But beauty isn't always healthy. And health is always more important than beauty.

I’m a practical nurse student and moving overweight people from their beds to the toilet is one of the most physically difficult things I’ve ever attempted.

“Obesity is not an identity. It’s the erasure of identity.”

Well said Matt.

Imagine a “Men’s Health” cover with a dude smoking a cigarette, eating a greasy burger while his giant beer gut over hangs his belt

I’m overweight and I hate it, I’ve lost weight and it’s challenging but I don’t want to just give up on myself. Being fat and out of shape is nothing to aspire to be. I’m not where I would like to be but I’m not a quitter. I’m doing what I can to get off my butt and eat healthy.

I used to be obese and took me like 3 years to get to my ideal/healthy weight. Three years of exercising everyday, controlling my calories consumption and everyday of persistence telling me that I could do it. Now that I see it I realize how hard it was and it's easier to quit, blame others and make them accept you for who you are... that's why this movement is complacent

If you need to say being fat is not healthy is a "HOT TAKE" that shows something about our society now

“Anti-fat bias” isn’t just a stigma. Ask your knees.

I've never felt unwelcome at any gym I've ever been to. The only times I felt uncomfortable were just because I was insecure and intimidated. Once I continued to go, I met lots of people who were very encouraging and would give me tips on how to lift better and be more efficient.

This is insane. Gyms are meant to help people get healthy...so instead they should applaud people who are not healthy? We should lie and say they are healthy? 🤦🏾‍♀️

I’ve struggled with my weight all my life. I’m now 33 and am finally on track to being healthier than I ever have been and I feel so much better. I wish I had taken it more seriously in my formative years, when changes were easier to make, because it is much more difficult to turn the tides as you get older. The fat positivity movement makes me so angry because it completely discounts the health issues that arise from being overweight. I never once felt like I was a “victim” because I wasn’t. If anything, only a victim of my own stupidity and bad habits. Being fat is not a lifestyle choice to be celebrated, it’s a disease and should be treated as such. People will look for any way to justify their poor life choices.

Don't hate the fatties for giving it a go. I get truly inspired when I see a large person out running. That takes guts and a lot of motivation.

Imagine being offended at someone who encouraged you to work harder and keep persevering? What a crazy world we live in🤦‍♀️

I've noticed that this "fat positivity" targets women the most. There's nothing wrong with taking care of your health and body. Yet if I say this, I'm fat phobic, jealous, a hater, male-identified, pick me, racist, and a bigot.

Exercise has a cyclic feedback beyond merely the increase in circulation, greater strength and endurance etc. It has a feedback of empowerment; not arrogance or pride even, but a sense of finally taking charge of something that is otherwise so easy to just "get to later" and have another bag of chips or watch yet another (one too many) shows on the couch.

I'd have the utmost respect for an obese person if I saw one at a gym. What is better than wanting to improve your health and have the courage to go to a gym where most of the people around you look already fitter?

Caring about your health isn't being fatphobic and ignoring the damaging health will ensure you have a short life.
