How to Update your Xbox One Controller

What if i updated my controller, but don't have the adapter yet. will it work when i get it? or do i need to update again?

You don't need any Xbox made usb. You can just use a usb like the one used to charge Samsung phones and it works the same

I did everything on this excellent video (we needed the controller update) and called even Microsoft to help as I could not get a signal for this to work (including hardbooting + unplugging everything from wall etc). It gave error in the party chat as "unable to find microphone". Microsoft rep over phone said the adapter was probably broken so went back to store and exchanged, and then with new exchanged headset, did everything again (wouldn't allow update to controller as it was already done). Still nothing worked and was furious thinking do I really have to buy new controllers now? As a final exasperated try, went into Settings/ Kinect - Device / Configure and then I tried to reset the controller to factory settings. Total random attempt before wanting to cry spending so much time on this. We'll, guess what? It freaking worked. Unbelievable. Both controllers work fine now (the microphone button lights up when you mute and it didn't do anything before signal was picked up). I can say as a user review this headset is great and my 9 yr old son loves it. Am 45 yr old mom who figured this out. My son is very impressed. Good luck all! Hope this helps.

I did it wirelessly and it apparently updated in about 3 minutes. I guess they updated it since this video...😁. Thank you though!👍

I have plugged in and tried to update and it refuses to work i tried many different controllers and usb and it will not work

i have a standard wireless xbox 1 controller would i still need a usb cable to update it as my controller disconnects randomly and would any micro usb work

Is it normal for the controller to turn off when you start the update?

It keeps saying there's no controller connected through a USB cable...I took my battery pack out and it still won't work. Taking the battery pack out before plugging it in just makes the controller spaz out and it won't even turn on properly, taking it out after plugging the cable in doesn't work because it keeps saying there's no USB-connected controllers...I have no idea how to fix this...

How bout if u already used the headset but it broke now you buy a headset adapter do you still need to update controller pls help!!!

So you have to update it with the mic and the adapter plugged into the controller?

what if you switch controllers and go back to your original controller do you have to update your controller again.

I'm trying this but the xbox won't recognise the controller. I've tried the usb that came with the controller as well as all the others I have in the house.

Does the USB cable that is necessary for the update come with the xo sevens or do i have to buy it separately?
