i went to japan in April and when we got there we didnt understand the train system after about 30 mins trying to find help, no one in the area spoke english which is understandable. as i walk away i hear someone speaking english and this nice japanese man offered to ride the train and show me to my hotel bc he lived near by. to this day i regret not asking that man his name, i hope the best for him.

Great tips! This video just came up in my recommendations. I got hired through Interac this past summer and start March 2025. I'm pretty psyched. Thankfully they're not a scam, but you need quite a bit more saved up to get there. Thankfully, the yen has crashed so hard that I just converted all to cash yen for the move while it was super cheap. The company recommends you come with 500k yen, which when they wrote that policy was $5k. However, at current exchange rates it's about $3300. Unlike nova, they just connect you with the apartment complex and you pay everything directly to the apartment, and the 500, 000yen is just to cover all your move-in costs and living up until that first monthly pay check like you said.

Awesome insight, subbed, hoping for more insight from a fellow American in Japan.

Another great video and VERY useful for those who just don’t know. Some of the best days of my past were grinding it out in Tokyo.

One memory was at a club. Some local chick called me baka (stupid) and I politely called her out in Japanese. After that we left each other alone. Weeks later she comments that I hold the same drink all night and I tell her I’m broke AF but about to start a job. This chick gives me the equivalent of a $100 bill and says pay her back later.

Never saw her again until I spotted her randomly at Shinjuku station (of all places) while going to work. She acted like she didn’t see me but I flagged her down and paid her back. She thanked me, said ganbatte ne and we never ran into each other again.

Love that city.

I worked for a company in Yamanashi called Unitas. They did the same crap. They took advantage of my apartment rent to steal $200 a month from me. There are sketchy companies out there, nova is not the only one. You need a sponsor to get an apartment most of the time. That’s how they take advantage of you, you can’t go rent an apartment on your own. You must have a four-year degree. That’s the only way you can get a job ob legitimately in Japan for most situations. Sounds like you survived OK. Congratulations for figuring out how to play the game.

You can also work inside a U.S. military base in Japan. Like at the PX or BK, or McDonald’s ext, All you need is a clean record.

I just found out if I wanna be a full complete citizen of Japan I have to give up my citizenship of America. But I love my country I really dont wanna give up my US Citizenship. Real reason I wanna live abroad is because despite being aware US is greedy which I respected because every country has its unique problems. But never realized greed is so horrific here that it's LITERALLY killing americans when I found out about the United Healthcare incedent.

Is it possible to obtain jobs there and make a living there without citienship? I just cant get vote stuff or something? I'm assuming getting an American online job is too competitive I dont see that as option

great educational video. There are a number of people who feel drawn to societies other their own. Hope you continue to find your place! Are you called a “foreigner” much? What about relationships/dating?
