Beginner Climber Tips: how to flag

I've found that flagging is something that I already understood intuitively. Like when you lean down to pick something up and stick a leg up behind you to balance yourself.

I think this is kind of a bad example for a flag tbh. If you where flagging with your right food you would be able to male a much more stable move. The way you do it, the moment you come over with your right hand you fall to the side. If you would stand on your left foot and flag with right you would be able to keep your balance which in fact would be the point of flagging.

This feels unique to me because I instinctively use outside flags to move the leading hand further ahead of the lagging hand, and backflags to join the lagging hand to the leading hand. Im still really new, which is probably the reason, but dont think Ive ever used an outside flag to move the lagging hand forward or match hands. Pretty cool nuance.

Keeping my arms straight when I’m not moving and flagging we’re a game changer for me. I can climb for 3 hours now, and I’m rarely sore in my biceps, just my back, chest and fingers

I'd say flag is a pretty early technique because it's easy to teach

Spotted the REI/AFRO pants, oh my God they're my favorite climbing/recreation pants. I first used them caving, and they held up amazingly after a super long gravel crawl, i was so impressed and i wear them all the time now haha i want like 20 pairs 😅

It would be help if you show what it looks like with and without flagging. To someone who doesn't know how flagging works, this doesn't explain why flagging helped in this situation.

You don't even need to flag on that purple V2, it would probably be easier if you just did not flag in the first place.
