The Gold Rush, a Story of Hardrock

When discussing the races that have shaped the history of trail running, the Hardrock 100 Endurance Run quickly earns a special mention. Established in the early 1990s, this race is steeped in a strong local history. The Colorado territory, marked by the gold rush in the mid-19th century, boasts some of the highest mountains in the United States. This intriguing mix makes the race a true adventure, akin to the miners' quest for hidden gold in underground tunnels.

Last year, Aurélien Dunand-Pallaz ventured onto the legendary trails of the Hardrock 100, seeking not only the self-transcendence inherent in ultra-distance running but also new horizons. Running through new mountains, higher and grander than those in the Alps that surround him. But also discovering a completely different culture of a similar sport. Discovering the community, the counterculture that trail running represents in the United States, the birthplace of ultra running, particularly through contributions from the local community.

For our French native of the Bauges mountain range, this race becomes a true adventure. A quest reminiscent of that pursued by miners in their time, searching for the gold hidden in the hostile mountains of the Colorado Rockies.

I have spent the last 2 week camping outside of Silverton before the 2024 Hardrock. I have been exploring the trails and training for another trail race and have an enormous mountain of respect for anyone who toes the line at the Hardrock 100. These are some tough mountains in a beautiful place

Absolutely amazing! 😍 I hope participating in the Hardrock 100 one day. Yet, dream come true. I ran my first ultra in February this year, TransGranCanaria Classic and loved it to bits. Something I wouldn't even think of doing 4 years ago starting my running adventure. Trail Running community is amazing and Trail Running itself is like no other!
