I gotta believe that when DesFit and DC Rainmaker speak with each other at full speed, they can fit three hours of conversation into just 45 minutes. 😂

I must say this … u r by far the most fluent content provider I have come across .. I have listened to hundreds of them with unnecessary emotions, emphasis, modulations, personal influence, and very low on actual content ( except few) what’s ur USP is that - ur flow and to the point no nonsense content .. I am in total sync and u are going to have a long long career with millions of followers . Great stuff ! Keep it coming

Epix 2 also has a "flashlight" screen like the Apple Watch Ultra. Step 1: hold LIGHT button;
Step 2: Select the "flashlight" symbol; Step 3: Press UP or DOWN to adjust the brightness and color.

TIP: You can quickly press LIGHT twice to turn on the flashlight at this setting in the future.

I've had Garmin gadgets for a while now. Starting with my cycling computer 820 to the 830. Then I bought the forerunner 245 for a decent price and fell in love with the features. Subsequently I purchased the forerunner 945 which I currently have. I cannot speak for the Apple Watch since I've never had one but I do have apple products. However, when it comes to fitness related stuff I definitely choose Garmin. They are durable, specially for military stuff and day to day usage. Battery life is always amazing, not only it charges in less than 30 mins but it lasts for multiple days.

I need Garmin to build with cellular, I love all that Garmin does especially for standup paddleboarding, but I really like just having my watch and no phone and still being able to make or take a call.

I have had Series 2 and Series 5 Apple Watch. I liked the style and the functions. I did not keep them because they just suck for endurance training. The Ultra fixes some of those issues, BUT I don’t like the look of it.

I would rather just keep my Garmin that is the best work out watch. Not to mention, when I did have my Apple Watches I would start getting distracted on my watch apps as if I were on a phone. The limited smart watch capabilities of the Garmin is a BENEFIT.

Good comparison. I’m sure Apple looked at Garmin for inspiration for the Ultra. I am sure they looked at the market in general. It sounds like for a first try, Apple did a decent job. As with everything, it’ll improve over time. I have a little doubt the Ultra will outsell the entire sports watch market because of Apple’s cachet as well as the features it brings from the standard version of it.

honestly, garmin is more oriented for outdoors, military, and country lifestyles. I got the Tactix 7 pro, its an awesome tool. The default coords format is MGRS, the military runs on this.

I used Apple Watches for 4 years. That includes running, lifting, swims, rucking, anything you can imagine really. And I just made the switch to the fenix 7x and it was well worth it. The only thing I miss is my activity rings. But the information I get from my 7 than my series 6 or the older models is insane!

I didn't hear you mention, but one big difference is lack of aggregated data. Apple Health and Fitness apps are separately required to search for certain things. And there is no available web platform for analyzing or comparing. Huge plus for Garmin. Also, Apple doesn't "do" anything with all the metrics it gathers. Body battery, training readiness, performance condition, sleep score, etc. are examples of Garmin setting a baseline and they letting you know how you are doing.

Edit: to Des’ credit, he has mentioned it before.

Please do a video comparing Apple Health and Garmin Connect.

I think this is where choices will be made for one vs the other.

For me it's the battery life on the Garmin Fenix's! I consistently get 2-3 weeks of battery with a dozen workouts, Spotify playback from the watch, always on heart rate, etc.

I was very interested in the Ultra but that interest led me to the Epix and I’m very happy with it

The ultra is $1100 in Canada. I returned mine after finding it pretty lacklustre for outdoor activity. I’d switch to Garmin hands down if I wasn’t into apple fitness plus.

The Athlytic App is so good! So glad you mentioned it!

The best thing about the Apple Watch is the cellular connectivity- this means you leave your phone at home and still be contactable. This is best thing for me - it means I can go out for a run without a heavy phone in my pocket. Not to be underestimated.

Wow, thank you so much for this quick comparison, it really does justify my AW Ultra purchase. I'm switching from a Garmin Instinct 2 which I had for it value, but I really miss having an AW for its smartwatch features. Great to see that I can get all the features I would miss from Garmin if I'm willing to download some apps (and pay for subscriptions) as well as give up a couple of sensors/data at certain times in order to extend the battery life to match. I really was considering an Epix 2 but now I'm truly sold on the AW Ultra. It meets all my needs and most of my wants. Thanks again!!

Very interesting and informative video, you've done an incredibly deep job. IMHO, it's strange to choose between Apple Watch and Garmin, because Garmin has a lot of experience in producing professional equipment for sports, outdoor activities and navigation, so they understand all the technologies and needs of sportsmen. Apple Watch, even Ultra, for me is more about everyday usage as smart watch + a little more sport functions.

Both pretty good but if I was lost in the middle of the Amazon or at sea I definitely would want the garmin. The ultra does have more features though and it’s the best choice if you have access to a charger every other day.
