For me Garmin is the best sport watch and the Apple Watch is the best smart watch, that’s it.

I think an important thing to note here is environment. I’m an AWU user, but I also live in an urban setting. So many of the Apple Watch features compliment that lifestyle, while also “getting by” for fitness. Shervin lives in a similar environment. I feel like if I lived near trails and the mountains, I’d be more likely to own a Garmin.

Apple: needs a 3rd party app & subscription for most sport tracking and coaching.

Apple does not currently support (without 3rd party apps) importing a GPX route to follow for trail runs, hikes, etc.

Garmin: Two options of adaptive training: Daily suggested workouts (with the option of a goal) & Garmin Coach which provides a choice of 3 coaches and their associated approaches to assist you in your goal defined in the onboarding of the program.

Breakdowns of what variables affect: recovery, sleep, VO2max score, etc.

Daily insights about training accomplished with suggests how to approach the next day and finish the evening.

Garmin can also have a user defined structured workout with specific labels for each exercise and rep counts.

Garmin has included live tracking where a user can share their progress of a race or an activity to friends and family no extra fees or apps. (Apple needs a subscription to Strava to achieve something similar).

While you pay a premium for Garmin it delivers a bunch of apps baked into the OS which means less need for nickel & dime subscriptions and a more fluid experience.

I can tell you after having the AW Ultra for 10 months and now I have the Epix G2 I absolulty prefer the Epix and I wear it all the time. I prefer the buttons . I prefer the round design vs square. The main thing is that I find the GPS to be much more accurate on the Garmin. The Applewatch Ultra would give me different distances for the same route every time. The AW Ultra does respond more quickly and the screen is slightly sharper looking. I never want to take off the Epix off after a workout, in fact I find it much more comfortable that the AW-U. The AW-U felt heavier and it always felt like it was wobbling around on my small wrist.

I have epix pro 2 51mm and AWU. Love the Garmin over AWU. Battery 🔋 is the king!

Why apple watch does measure sleep if you never have watch on wrist due to empty battery in the evening? With Garmin you can measure sleep because you don't put watch off wrist since there is no battery issue.

Main reason I wear my ultra 2 over my fenix 7 is the pay feature. Garmin pay doesn’t work with most banks. I don’t necessarily need gps and cellular on my watch (however it is nice). But the pay feature is so handy.

However, I would never use my ultra 2 for outdoor activities. Garmin all day long. Apple doesn’t use onboard maps without the phone present. So without phone service, ultra is almost useless. Garmins onboard mapping is incredible, with or without the phone.

I’ve tried both and prefer the Garmin which takes more frequent readings from the sensor for better HRV and health insights than the Apple. Video doesn’t cover the Garmin Connect app which provides much more stats and contextual data than Apple. Great video though, great to see this comparison!

You're out here grinding and not sacrificing quality, good job brother.

I have watched a bunch of videos on both watches. I have an EPIX, but considering a Ultra, . This video is the first that gives a realistic experience for an everyday athlete (vs. a professional ultra runner) and the benefit to both watches. I also enjoyed your humor, we all know but no one says. Cheers.

The thing about Garmin that pisses me off the most is the strenght training with it. Yes, its there, but man is it wrong all the time. Rep counts and heart rate completly wrong therefore calories burned are also wrong. Basicly its useless for a hybrid athlete. Its good for your runs but if you are doing other training sessions they will never be counted towards other metrics like training readiness, body battery etc.

I decided since I carry a phone during all of my other times that I'm not exercising, I would rid myself of the Smartwatch variety and now I only wear a Garmin. But not just for exercising because it lasts so long without charging.

At this point I won't ever go back to a smartwatch.

Because I have a whoop band, the AWU doesn’t need to have recovery metrics. Additionally, being able to have cellular and location sharing with my wife while on a run is really nice. It just feels nice to be able to not bring my phone with me on a run.

Your running seems to be improving bro. You’re looking like a black haired Marwari stallion riding to the hills ☠️ keep it up brah

As a golfer, I’m team garmin. 5 hours of gps time will burn through an Apple battery and Garmin’s golf app is natively supported. I would like that Apple smart watch experience though.

Guys that wear Apple watches cross their legs when they get in the passenger seat of a car.

LOVE your channel and LOVE the Garmin/Apple comparisons. I have a fenix 7 pro and AW 7. It’s really tough to choose. I think overall, AW is better UNLESS your primary activity is hiking, outdoorsy stuff then Garmin. I took my Garmin hiking in the Rockies and the maps were AMAZING and navigated me safely up the mountain. I got off the trail because of snow. It notified me and led me safely back on the trail.

Garmin epix pro 51mm has a battery that will last a month in smartwatch mode. And the Garmin Connect app provides way more data than Apple health.

I just sold my AWU and got the Epix Pro 51mm and much prefer the Garmin, much more in depth running and health stats. I did miss Apple Pay and Garmin pay doesn’t support many banks, I found a work around though, I got the Curve card from Samsung and it links every bank and then add that curve card to Garmin pay.
