How Did Joseph Stalin's Soviet Russia Brutally Starve Ukraine?

The list of atrocities committed by the Russian Government against the people of Ukraine is long and gruesome. However, maybe the worst and most tragic was the Holodomor, one of the most horrific tragedies of the 20th century. The Holodomor was a horrific famine that occurred in 1932 and 33 that led to the detags of approximately 3.5 million Ukrainians. The causes of this famine were largely man made but are disputed. Many point towards nonsensical communist policies such as purging successful peasants and collectivisation as the main causes. However, others point towards policies that suggest it may have been a deliberate genocide of the Ukrainian people. For instance, Stalin was particularly harsh on ethnic Ukrainian peasants, mandating that they deliver more grain than other Soviet territories to the State, with other evidence suggesting Ukrainians were denied machinery upgrades. Foreign aid was also rejected and it was covered up and denied by the Soviets until the 1980s.

1. He is Georgian
2. It's the Soviet Union
3. Holodomor took place in Kazakhstan and Russia as well
4. Clear your brain

And the propaganda that followed put the blame on the Germans

Jesus Christ, I'm sick of these kids in the comments that think they're edgy. Everyone who says "didn't happen, but if it did, they deserved it" should be starved for 12 days.

The Holodomor was a part of the larger Soviet famine of 1930–1933. It was not only Ukraine that was hit. Russia and Kazakhstan also was hit hard. So saying it was a genocide against Ukrainians does not add up.

My grandmother told me about the famine. Russian soldiers came, took their food, and deliberately knocked over a pot of soup that was being made.

Ill let you know that holodomor literally means famine, which by the way also ran through belarus, georgia, armenia, azerbaijan and don-kuban region of russia. Everyone was fucking starving, ukraine was particularly badly hit due to high mismanagement of the local oblast rulers and massive amounts of kulak land that had yet to be collectivised, the most of it, in fact was in ukraine, in no way this was a centralised effort to intentionally starve people, let alone of a taken ethnicity, this is a yet another profanity against ussr, born through agrresive anti-communism of the west, that really never even left away, vilifying ussr and coming up with, ,numerous warcrimes, , and such is a favourite past time of your standard know barely anything about history westerner. But hey, its nothing new, hypocrisy is rife in the political culture of the west, especially towards those who threaten(ed) them.

Oh yes, it was totally intentional, that's why it also killed rural populations of other ethnicities too. Ignore the drought and bad harvest

It wasn't only in Ukraine. In Karelia, near the Volga, and the in Caucasus people were starving too.

“Stalin’s Russia” immediately plummeted your credibility.

Sounds so similar to what Britan did to Ireland and other countries. Some say it was because of Ukraine having ties to the Nazis and even having their own SS forces . There is no excuse for genocide, but we should not give one a pass and persecution of another . If the Royal family of England can be forgiven then at some point Russia should also be forgiven for the sins of their fathers .

People are getting on his ass about calling the ussr stalin’s Russia, and yes, while the ussr isn’t just Russia, and Stalin was Georgian, it’s not only more common and simple to call it Russia, but most people will call it Russia anyway, because while Stalin was Georgian, the ussr was a Russian dominated state. Get off your “akhthually” high horse and cut this man some slack.

Oh boy, I can't wait to read the whole spectrum of mental gymnastics in the comments by tankies and such, justifying, blaming others or outright denying the holodomor...
