The Insanity of Holodomor Denial

The Holodomor was a man made famine that was intentionally made worse by Stalin and the Soviet Communist regime as a brutal way to stomp out Ukrainian resistance, resulting in the deaths of millions and is widely recognized as a genocide. Unfortunately, many people, especially communists, have trouble accepting this reality and engage in various arguments to deny that this occurred.

This one had a more farcical sequel. Ethiopia's socialist dictator Mengistu faced unrest, and once the most restive provinces faced one of their occasional brutal droughts, decided to make things worse. To quote the guy: "Guerrillas are fishes and people the sea they swim in. No sea, no fishes." Westerners saw images of starving children, got a serious case of sad feels and organized a huge relief effort (Live Aid being the most famous part). Mengistu promptly confiscated most of the relief funds and bought weapons from Soviet Union. Luckily we learned from it and never again would humanitarian aid end up propping up odious groups like, dunno, Hamas. Right...?

Dev did a video like this a while back and he showed a Quora post from some tankie “refuting western anti communist propaganda”. Dude literally did that doge meme. Said in one paragraph that the “Kulaks totally deserved it” only to turn around a few paragraphs later to say “the Holodomor never happened!” Even Dev was like which is it? If it never happened then what did they totally deserve?!?

My Great Grandparents fled Ukraine to the States. Their siblings who stayed in Ukraine wrote letters to my great grandparents. In the last letter was a phrase that gives me chills to this day: "Dont send us money, send bread. Money is useless here."
