Premier Diamond Products mortar raking blades and Evorake bits provide a great solution for raking out mortar joints prior to re-pointing. Evorake bits can also be used for completely removing damaged bricks.

I have bought one of the bits to work on a brick built outhouse only to find that it wore out in a couple of hours. The reason being is that an idiot used sharp sand and too strong a cement mix effectively using concrete instead of mortar. To make matters worse he used the same mix to render the exterior walls in a single thick coat so that many bricks have spalled and split due to frost expansion. We need a tool to deal with the aftermath of cowboy builders! If mortar has been properly mixed then I can see that the raking bits would be satisfactory given proper extraction.

Great video. Seems a very sensible way to use the two tools. Wonder if you have considered selling a guard for the auger bits, but guess you need to see what you are doing for a good job.

What a mess.
Get a proper mortar rake and do the job right.
