I'm all finished with the new album, Halfwolf, and now it's time to drop some lyric videos! First up from the album is "The Rot," an Elden Ring-inspired track from the perspective of Malenia, Blade of Miquella. It follows her embrace of the infection consuming her to accept an eventual new form as the Goddess of Rot.

(Wow there's a lot of lyrics in this one)

Lyrics:
The poison in the cherry wine
A state of death but trapped in time
Afflicted with a nightmare's touch
That mother could not cure
A crimson promise kept to me
And I cling to it carefully
When battles fought could break my soul
It whispers to endure

As flowers blow in southern winds
They tell the tales of my own sin
When I can't stop the fight I'm in
And scarlet spreads once more

This is the pain that feeds
The rot inside
A poison and a creed
My parasite
I am changed but free
And it strengthens me
Still to survive
So like a river flows
I'll move along
As the infection grows
My heart beats strong
I will thrive consumed
As a midnight bloom
Into the dawn

A killing blow from nature's wrath
The detour on my divine path
In fallout of the shattered
The debtors are unpaid
Misguided by the influence
Of the last order's ignorance
There's hope left in the bloodline still
It slumbers far away

Beyond the mountains on the sea
Lies kindred grace for Valkyries
The wait for a homecoming
It grows to countless days

This is the pain that feeds
The rot inside
A poison and a creed
My parasite
I am changed but free
And it strengthens me
Still to survive
So like a river flows
I'll move along
As the infection grows
My heart beats strong
I will thrive consumed
As a midnight bloom
Into the dawn

So if I must wait forever
For salvation or the grave
I have bound my soul to vengeance
And I've taken what I crave
I will stop the interruptions
Even if I lose my mind
When the roaches come I'll crush them
As I'm running out of time

Within the rot it seems
There's a faint humanity
That speaks to the affliction as it grows
And all I have become
In the years of growing numb
Is perfect in the ways I've come to know

This is the pain that feeds
The rot inside
A poison and a creed
My parasite
I am changed but free
And it strengthens me
Still to survive
So like a river flows
I'll move along
As the infection grows
My heart beats strong
I will thrive consumed
As a midnight bloom
Into the dawn

The dlc makes this even sadder. She wishes her brothers victory...but is unaware of how much hed lost himself without her or godwyn

I've never played Elden Ring or really any Dark Souls like games before, but this song somehow reminds me of my dad. He has a particularly aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma. He has only been diagnosed officially for about 2 months, but he's nearing the end now. Im currently sitting next to him at the hospice center listening to this song. He's been fighting the best he can, but I still know that his end is soon.
I'm gonna miss him, but i'm glad i was able to find this song anyway.

Damn, that pained background vocal in the chorus really sells what Malenia is: a warrior forever in pain, yet tied to the promise she holds to Miquella.

I love how fast-paced this song is. Coming from someone who uses straight swords most of the time, this feels like a fight to the finish. Also, RIP Millicent, another waifu of Rot.

Here’s how Malenia’s healing works: it’s not a power from her divine heritage, her Great Rune, or the Rot. It’s pure willpower, built up over a lifetime of training and resisting her curse, even as it eats her alive. Each strike that lands true reinvigorates her and propels her into the next, and the next, until her opponent is another corpse piled at the foot of her and Miquella’s dreams. Malenia is someone who has spent her entire life suffering, but still *absolutely refuses* to give in and die. This is that woman’s theme song.

I like how you captured something that other videos about Malenia as a character don't. Everyone focus on the tragedy that Scarlet Rot is for her, and it is cool that you didn't miss how strong and quite cool of a character she is. A swordwoman able to heal from her will alone, and a legend in combat. Really cool that you gave her an hommage like that :D

"So as a river flows, Ill move along" I love this line! Its not only a clever reference to her most infamous ability, the dreaded 'Waterfowl dance', but I believe a reference to her teacher, who taught her that move and was actually the one who originally sealed away the Outer God of Rot. If it is, Very well done!

Did not expect this beat! Feels like a tango which fits Malania’s fight. Amazing work!

Not at all what I expected (something very somber and sad), but very good! I'm actually glad you took the angle of overcoming and perseverance, instead of doom and gloom. 🙌🏻

Never thought a Malenia song could sound so upbeat and groovy, but that is largely because of her first phase music being bad lofi beats to sleep to. Instead, you gave us something that I'd love to dance a nice foxtrot to. Also, the falsetto on the bridge was immaculate.

This song reminds me so much of sekiro/ his sekiro song. All the talk of rot (dragon rot), “I am changed but free and it strengthens me” like how sekiro has the divine heirs blood and the general feeling of determination feels like this could be spiritual successor to undying. Love this song already and the rest of the album!

I like how the song makes a reference to Malenia moving as a river, which is a reference to her combat style. Which means to express how a flowing water is pure of bugs, parasites and stagnant rot. And thus her moving like flowing water in combat helps her keep the rot at bay!
Aviators knows his lore!

(Or it could just reference the waterfowl dance idk, still a great song.)

Aviators has made some great projects over the years, but Halfwolf has got to be his best to date. 💜

"And so it is said, Aviators would tell the tale once more. From the Darkened Lands of a Fading Flame, to the Deepest pits of a Rotten Flower." Great work here, always love another song!
