At last, after being inspired by Dark Souls 1 and 3, Demon's Souls and Bloodborne, Dark Souls 2 gave me a story with more emotional impact than I expected. Within the expansion "Crown of the Ivory King" lies a story of love and sacrifice, telling the tale of The Ivory King's plunge into the depths of chaos to save his dear Queen Alsanna and the rest of the world. Years later, his soul remains in torment without rest, reliving the pain of leaving his love until someone comes to take his soul.

Also, outside of the really bittersweet lore, I got to know The King very well in this area of the game, because it is really, REALLY hard. I think I'll leave him and his queen alone from now on.

Lyrics:

Last kiss for a burned man
Dark child of the outlands
My heavy heart will take this last goodbye
Brave souls for a last stand
Spilled blood on my charred hands
A sacrifice to know you'll stay alive

When the fire has come
I will die to protect you
Light a candle for me
On this winter's day
My queen, don't cry tonight
There's a dream left to cling to
I will rest in ash
To leave you safe, I pray

Fresh snow for the dark years
Frost graced by a king's tears
My love, I must not waver now in death
Deep earth, where the fires glow
Faced down with the unknown
A whispered vow to you on my last breath

Always these winds will whisper
Laced with an endless shiver
Leave a light above for me to find
Last queen of lands forsaken
Hold strong when life is taken
Keep a memory, for peace of mind

The fact that the Ivory king single handedly took care of CHAOS, the very birthplace of pyromancies and fueld by a whole lord soul, is nothing short of lengendary. In many ways, chaos was about to become a problem similar to the abyss, and he did the unthinkable and stopped it before it could truly start.

The fact that his 5 remaining Knights willingly drop down with the Bearer astounds me, they are WILLING to sacrifice themselves just as their King did, in order to stop the Chaos from reclaiming what it had lost. He will forever have my respect, and I will dedicate my next Dark Souls 3 character to Eleum Loyce.

Ah, Ivory King.
One of the greatest characters in the entire souls series. A man truly worthy of being called a king.

Is from a barbarous clan of warriors, yet became a wise king.
Was the first to draw his sword in the time of need.
Was the first to stand on the frontline and face the enemy.
Knew that his queen was a shard of great darkness, drawn to him by anything but love, yet embraced her still and turned darkness into light.
When he found the hole through which the Chaos was seeping out, he built his throne room not as far away from it, but right above it - to be the first to face whatever monstrocity will climb out.

There are not a lot of truly decent characters through out the Souls series.
And this man was an absolute badass.

“Stand, for you are in the presence of a True King.”

“Knight, I know not who you are, but to save my King, I will follow you, into Chaos.”

“We shall snuff out this infernal Chaos, as one.”

“Let my body be thy shield, my soul, thy sword.”

“Our King shall rest, as he deserves, more-so than any of us.”

Out of all of the fallen kings in DS2's story, the Ivory King is the only one who was unambiguously a good person. No strings attached. No skeletons in the closet. Just a heart as pure as gold, the will to enforce that heart's benevolent ambitions, and the strength to defend his people from man and monster alike.

I can't see someone kind enough to turn an immensely powerful shard of a horror of the abyss into a kindhearted soul as anything other than an absolute chad.

I've always been a firm believer that the Ivory King was one of the only true heroes in the entirety of the Souls franchise. He was one of the greatest and most noble of the kings, and was selfless to a fault. He loved a Child of the Dark, and guarded the Chaos personally so that his subjects would be spared from it's corrupting essence. When he realized he was to fall to Chaos, he instead dove into it with a troupe of his most faithful knights in a desperate attempt to seal the Chaos, leaving his kingdom to his bride.
Personally, I believe he died with a smile on his lips as the Cursed One freed him from his torment.
Truly, a man worthy of respect and mourning.

People here were crediting the weakness of the demons in Dark Souls 3 to the actions of the Ivory King and his Queen but I think they did more than that, in Dark Souls 2 the Demon's Great Hammer's description outright says "The origins of its name are unclear. Its tremendous weight suggests that it was never intended for humans. Perhaps it was an offering to the demons that appear in legend. "
Meaning that people had forgotten that demons existed and enough time had passed for any record of them to be confused for myth, I'd like to credit all that on the Ivory King, his Knights, and his Queen. They suppressed the demons long enough and so effectively to not only greatly weaken them but also to have the world forget that goddamn demons existed despite having their weapons floating about.

Another thing is that when you descend into the old chaos yourself, you don't see a single demon there. It's just the Loyce knights and their king.
They kicked so much demon ass and for so long, that the birthplace of demons didn't have any demons to throw at you and people forgot demons were even a thing. That's bloody badass.

A beautiful requiem for an incredible King.
Just to make you all sad: Ivory king actually has dialogues; when he appear, he say " Burn!", when he buff his sword he say " Die!" and, finally, when he is killed and set free from chaos influence, he say " Alsanna."

”When the fire comes, I will die to protect you.”

That gave me chills to hear that sentence

Bro really said "I can fix her." and then actually did it.

Let us not ignore the fact that not only is the song good, but that somebody had to grind out 50 Loyce Souls in order to get those great shots of Alsanna and the cathedral for the video! Musical beauty combined with diligence.

The Ivory King was the most metal motherfucker in the entire franchise. I like a lot of the characters, but the Ivory King, that man earned my admiration, much less my respect. His strength was so great that even the darkness twisted in his presence and the chaos never recovered from his might.

It was an honor to grant this great man his final well-earned rest. May it be a pleasant one.

This man is one of the only True Heroes in Dark Souls. Many kings are hailed like such at the beginning; but all have a dark side to them that you learn as you continue.

But not the Ivory King. He was good and true, and even Hollowed and Burnt, you can tell he still sates the Old Chaos. His death is not the loss of a Hero, but the Freedom of a Legend's Tortured Soul. He rivals Artorias in story, but exceed him in compassion. When met with the Dark, he did not destroy it, but let it drink his strength to become something more than the sum of it's parts.

The only hero truly deserving of a song.

Besides us, of course.

this is real love. You can hear it, you can FEEL it. Mighty warrior though he may have been, I respect a man who can love someone like this, to a far higher degree than any fighter.

A true king inspires loyalty in his subjects. His knights are so loyal to him that they are willing to sacrifice their own lives to protect the kingdom he created even if it's in ruins.
