As a Tidal user (who also uses Spotify for my work as a music history teacher), I've tried the Dolby Atmos and, just as another viewer commented, I feel it's just a gimmick, most albums do not have proper Atmos mixes done by professional mixing engineers. Some do, it's fun, but at the end of the day, it's just another stereo vs 5.1 music battle, and, at least for me, I'll always go for stereo when it comes to music, unless it was originally conceived as a multichannel/Atmos piece of music. Just my two cents, love your channel Danny! All the best from Chile.

P.S: I feel like outside the US, Apple Music isn't as popular as Spotify, which is the king of streaming services in most of the world. Also, here in Chile, Tidal offers it's HiFi service for $10 dollars a month, I think they adjust the price based on each region (I also remember when it was $20 for the hi fi service).

As someone who has been into surround sound since the 70's, nothing beats a great surround recording on a nice system. When the mix is right it's just so immersive. Dolby Atmos kind of does that but not really as gimmicky as some surround mixes are. It just opens things up in the space inside your head. Can't wait to hear more. Their Lossless and HiRes titles are pretty nice as well. I hope they get more Hires. I have a Samsung Note 20 Ultra 5g that plays back HIres natively according to Samsung.

Awesome video - the Beatles spatial audio tracks are amazing…. Just a note for Apple earbud users…you have to turn on spatial audio in your BT settings…then everything opens up.

Give Diana Ross - I’m coming out a listen…. It’s insanely good !

I was so overloaded with information that I forgot to comment after watching. It was like Master Class meets TED Talk.

Nice video man. I was so so hyped on when the rumor mill started to stir up about Apple moving towards Lossless Audio, and then of course Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos. I was curious about spatial audio. I am hoping that they figure out a way to make it happen stereo for simulated through computational audio, but I have a feeling it isn’t possible due to too many variables with the room and how the system is set up.

Either way, this is a good thing for everyone.

When I mow the lawn I listen to lossy mp3's. When I travel, I listen to lossy mp3's. When I stream music in my home I listen to lossless/hi res. In my opinion, when you are out and about listening on headphones or in your car, there is no point listening to lossy. There are just to many background compromises to matter.

Quick question here. This is digitally sourced music we are talking about regardless of anything else correct? If so, then it is impossible to have Lossless audio. Digital, no matter the size and type of file sourced, is a medium/language that replicates true analog signals (on & off or 1&0) and there is a loss of information in the replication of an analog signal. Analog is real world phenomenon. Digital is not. Whether we can hear the difference or not. Sorry, I'm busting your chops here. Ignore me. Good video especially for laymen. Geez, I haven't been laymened in god knows how long. Thanks again.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m observing something slightly disappointing about the Dolby Atmos tracks available from Apple Music… they may be specifically designed to playback only on headphones. That might sound silly to say but what I expected was that I’d also have the option to playback on my Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 system connected to my AVR and Apple TV 4K (2021). When I play them back, the sound is terrible. I’m better off playing the lossless or Hi-Res and utilising my AVR’s Dolby Surround upgrade technology; this sounds amazing.

The tracks I was testing with were ABBA’s Voyage album. I haven’t read any reviews on this to say whether or not it’s a bad example of Dolby Atmos. To be honest, this album also sounds less compelling with headphones in Dolby Atmos than it does in its true Hi-Res lossless form. So, maybe this was a bad choice for testing but I just thought they’d have done a good job with this.

Oh and I must admit, I do not have AirPods. So, if it only works properly with those then that would also help explain it.

Dekoni makes some killer memory foam tips for your AirPod pro’s. You should give them a try. I won’t go back to silicon tips ever again.

I turned on apple music for a week and just turned it back off.. lossless is a great step in the right direction but Spatial Audio/Dolby Atmos is an unwanted gimmick IMO. I want to hear DSOTM the way the artist intended not with a fad of the month from apple. Also.. no gapless playback, will never work with Roon.. I'm not a fan. But again, promising for the future. Love your channel.

I don't care about headphones… and I don't care about streaming and the "millions and millions" songs. But what I find interesting here is this: You have a stellar system and then seem to listen to music everywhere and/or anything. I'm I wrong?
I don't know, since I started to listen to music in my own stellar system, or in the hifi shop (this week a marvelous system with Brinkmann, DS Audio, Alieno pre/amp and Tidal speakers), I have some difficulty making a reset and enjoy music in less than stellar conditions. Now I dislike listen to music in the car. I don't think this is particularly positive. Did happen to you at some point?
