i started working out for someone else, suffering through workouts i wasn’t ready to physically do and sometimes i wouldn’t even eat before. but over the summer i realized, i’m not gonna do this for someone else. i’m doing this for me, i want abs and nice arms and i want ti get stronger and i want to look good for ME. it’s my body, not someone else’s. treat your body right and god dammit love yourself! it’s the key to happiness ❤

Around 10-12% body fat rn and not experiencing any of these down sides. Still getting stronger, my “wee wee” is working just fine and my mood hasn’t changed. I’m eating more every week and keep getting leaner. Maintain Brothers

this is a very smart way of viewing things, the point of dieting and lifting should be to make yourself feel good, not to please others

Very true no one your personal goals matter wayyy more than your social goals so be careful which path you take

A cut has to be done RIGHT for it to feel okay. Right amount of a deficit for an appropriate amount of time. Latest studies are pointing us in the direction of 300 kCal daily as a deficit for about three months continually then break the cut and eat at maintenance until you regain that strength and energy -test subjects reported they’d feel normal again after 2 weeks to one month-, repeat if necessary.

Being lean for social media is actually potentially a *better* reason than "for your own progress." In fact it does nothing for your own progress; it *impedes* your progress, as Max explains here. So that's just foolishness. At least getting lean for a photoshoot is just business. If you're serious and deliberate and strictly professional about it (and smart about it, such as saving up your lean pics to post throughout the year and not trying to actually be lean for more than a little bit of time), you can use those pictures strategically to advertise your fitness career, as part of a larger and carefully thought out business plan. Keep business separate from your personal reality, or your ego, and you may have a hope of using shreddedness in a smart way. Or, of course, prep for a bodybuilding competition if that is a hobby you wish to pursue. But the last thing you want to do is imagine it has anything to do with your "progress." I think Max is thinking the right idea and has a good message but he didn't phrase it quite right.

I got shredded for the first time earlier this year, and maintained it for a bit longer than I shouldve, and while you look great you feel AWFUL. No weiner issues personally, but my sleep schedule suffered the worst by far, and I was always irritable . I was averaging maybe 3 hours a night, and it got so bad I had to result to OTC sleep aids for an extended period, and let me tell you, those benadryl demons hit DIFFERENT, would NOT recommend, I was so dependent that I was legitimately scared to sleep at times because the drug induced psychosis scares you that bad.

Here’s a fun fact/ secret: Most of your favorite fitness influencers do not maintain that leanness for an extended period of time. Usually they’ll have a week or two where they’re dry, lean and conditioned, and will take TONS of photos and videos during that very short time frame, and drip feed them to you over an extended period of time so it appears that they are always that way. It gives you unrealistic expectations for sure. I feel perfect sitting at around 12% bf as opposed to lower than that.

I’m getting bulked up to meet my ex friends at my school’s standards and then completely ignore them to focus on my self while i prove to them that i am better.

I prefer being bulky and strong, but I understand people who want to be lean and mobile. I like to compare it to character classes in games. I'm a bruiser main, not a rogue main

FACTS. I never realized how much mindset goes into your test levels. If you’re not doing it to better yourself you’re just going to be a miserable person that is also fit.
