If you are new to the Tesla Model S, you may run across this at some time eventually. You may think when the door handles retract when you have your hands in there you can hurt your fingers or your hand!

Totally BS! My wife and mother have broken their finger nail when they were surprised with the retracting door handle and they pulled away quickly due to shock or surprise. But if they knew about the safety that Tesla has built into the door handles they shouldn't have reacted like that.

From my testing, the doors are spring loaded when closing and only have 4 lbs of force. Not enough to hurt you and I can keep it open with my pinky. I also demonstrate on my two son's, 9 and 6 years old and they are fine.

I'm not surprised at all by this. Tesla takes their customers' safety very seriously.

This handle is totally safe, the only way you could possibly hurt yourself is if you pull it... and why on earth would anybody pull a car door handle?

Sorry to disagree, I had never come across this ridiculous idea. Friend picked me up in her Tesla, as I reached for the handle it retracted and caught my finger. I now have a black nail. Yes it hurt!
