Regarding bold colors: I finally hung my deep teal blackout curtains. It's taken me a year and a half to do, but that's because I have a bay window and only two panels. I hadn't found a third panel for the same curtains, so I looked up ways to dress a bay window and saw that two panels flanking the edges could still work. Et voila!

I use small scale art in places that are a bit hidden. The walls behind my armoire doors have small paintings on them. I put the inside closets and on the inside of the kitchen pantry door or a inch or two above the guest room nightstand, with a lamp and a crystal water pitcher with matching glass.

No pleated lamp shade for me. Difficult to clean. I am allergic to dust.

Marble counter tops and splash backs are a pain to maintain. Marble is a very porous material and in the kitchen, stains and spills are tricky to get off. Marble is easily scratched too.
I much prefer quartz for the stain resistance, non porous quality and durability.
It is sad that high art is reduced to a splash of paint and plaster, requiring zero skill.
I love art that shows the skill of perception and depth, the brush stokes, the play of light, shadows and dark.
The portrait of piercing eyes and tilt of the head, the fragility and strength of nature simultaneously.
Reproduction prints of famous artists may be currently out of fashion but at least they are beautiful and timeless.
I'm proud to have a large Van Gough 'Almond blossoms' framed reproduction print in my lounge and Klimt's reproduction print "Farm garden with sunflowers" in my dining area.
