Review: 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT

I spend a week with the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT to see how the faster Mach-E compares to the regular one and whether it lives up to the Mustang name any better than the regular Mach-E. Overall, it's a lot of fun and very impressive in most ways, but there was one glaring flaw that I found that still keeps it from feeling like a Mustang to me. Also, with pricing reaching past $70,000 now, it's expensive when luxury performance competitors like the Genesis GV60 Performance and Tesla Model Y Performance are similar or less money. And with other fierce competitors coming for 2023 like the Kia EV6 GT and Chevy Blazer EV SS, the competition makes the Mach-E GT's proposition a little tougher. What do you think about the Mach-E GT? Thanks to Ford for providing this vehicle to review!

The front motor of the Mach-E GT is the exact same as the rear motor. Both are 280 HP motors with the same part numbers for the actual motor components. The regular Mach-E has a SMALLER front motor compared to the rear motor. Basically they replaced the small front motor with another rear motor attached to the front wheels. The torque steer and front traction issues is because it's trying to send power to wheels which have less weight on them on acceleration. When you floor it, the weight distribution shifts back to sit on the back wheels. Hence, the front wheels are more likely to lose traction.

Great review video Matt! The price is still out of range for most people which is a shame, I’d love to own one!

It’s nice to have a car that sums up everything I hate about modern ford. Your electric escape is cute though

Main reasons I got this over the Model Y was Rear cross-traffic alerts, radar-based ADAS, Blue Cruise, dedicated buttons on the steering wheel, quieter cabin, better build quality, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM radio, a guage cluster, 360 top down camera, and still currently the $7, 500 tax credit. I never road trip so charging speed and network weren't relevant for me. The EV6 has most of these things too but I couldn't deal with having to constantly toggle between volume and climate controls.

Matt, great review, I am happy you still do long reviews, if people want tik tok short videos let them go there. I love in depth reviews like this. I consider myself a gear head, and usually in the know. However, I did not know Ford put the bigger motor up front on this GT, I thought it was in the back. So, I actually learned watching this review. I agree with you why did Ford put the bigger motor up front? You should not have torque steer in a "All Wheel Drive" EV like this. Looks like you made the better choice. You are better off getting the regular Mach E, I know that would drive me nuts having torque steer in a vehicle like this. Nice review. I learn something everyday. Keep the long in depth reviews coming.

Times have definitely changed in terms of pricing. Those Shelby versions look NICE.

I would love to see the Mach E GT race against the 2013 Tesla Model 3

The torque steer is surprising for a car like this, weird decision by Ford to put the more powerful motor up front. Thorough as always Matt! Great video

It's a really nice EV offering, but the name still doesn't sit quite right. I think this would have been the perfect chance for a Ford Fusion EV reboot. For example this could work as an ST model. Just swap out the Mustang logos and the tri-bar tail lights and boom you've got a Fusion EV. I think the Mach-E moniker could have been reserved for the inevitable electrification of the actual Mustang. Nonetheless this is a really nice vehicle, though I think I'd still prefer an IONIQ.

I am expecting the EV6 GT to be a quicker vehicle than the Mach-E GT. They will both be great IMO.

It's a shame that Ford can't make enough of its cars due to parts shortages. Everything they make is hot right now.

Good review as always Matt. In theory I would like the car more than other EVs...however:

The car costs 86000€ in germany. Look at that key 2:38. Tell me this is the key whats with some options is basically an above 90k car!? The interior has even more plastic. These EV prices are ridiculous. Why would I buy this. Especially since the battery loses half it's range in a couple of years. I thought the mustang was supposed to be a somewhat reasonable/affordable EV, but no thanks I rather pay much more at that gas station than a toy car.

You can buy a 3 year old used s-class for half that price. And when you sell it, you will still get a lot back.

The most impressive part of this video was the Bullitt cutaway 😂

It looks like a fun drive. Kicking out the rear end is exciting lol as long as it comes back.

I know the guy responsible for the launch of the Mustang Mach E. I'm surprised the doors arent on backwards and doesn't come with square tires

I'm loyal to the Mustang brand. I was a teenager when the first Mustang was introduced. Like many teenagers in my generation I absolutely fell in love with the Mustang.

Ford was smart in calling the Mach E a Mustang. That helps Ford continue to make the more powerful ICE Mustangs.
