As someone who has gotten whiffs of more than their fair share of toluene (industrial chemistry), I could not imagine a worse way to get high.

"Yum, " he thought, uncapping the paint thinner. "Permenant brain damage."

People need to know also that inhalant abuse tends to cause clinically noticeable problems *quickly.* For the most part, weed or alcohol or lots of other drugs can be abused for quite a while before you really start wrecking your brains. People who are able to overcome addiction, overdoses, or whatever tend to be able to come out on the other side with their brains surprisingly intact, especially after a year or two of sobriety. Inhalants are different and gait problems start relatively quickly. My usual line to teenagers is that if you really need to abuse substances and won't let anyone talk you out of it, please, please, please -- just don't use inhalants.

TIL why I should use baby oil instead of paint thinner to blend my colored pencil work next time I’m making art.

I did this as a young teenager. The things kids do when they aren't raised right will blow your mind.

As someone who got brain damage from a Bacterial infection in the brain, I can't imagine why anyone would do something to invite brain damage.

I used to use industrial paints without a mask when I was 16. Sometimes, I wonder what I could've been if I hadn't been in that environment.

The globus pallidus is so-named because it is extremely pale due to myelinization (the covering of axons with fatty sheaths that improve signal transmission speed and accuracy). Along with the thalamus, these are major components of the basal ganglia. Even insects have a rudimentary basal ganglia. These are truly primordial structures that you don't want to damage.

For anyone out there struggling with mental health issues after suffering an infection, stroke, or any other form of brain injury, I pray for your neuroplasticity. ❤

This was a drug of choice in Hungary. We had a pack of wild roaming sniffers in our building. I always imagined their brain like a dried out air freshener jel. The kind is in a cone, and if left to dry out, it turns into this hard clump rattling in the container

When I was a kid I think around 11 or 12 years old I found a really old radio in someone's garbage.

Being interested in electronics and fixing things, I grabbed it.

I took it to my grandparent's basement where I was living at the time and started taking it apart.

It had a lot of dirt and debris in it and it was one of those old-time tuners that had exposed plates and they were absolutely dirty.

I headed off to radio shack for some tuner cleaner.

I started spraying the tuner cleaner into the radio and looking closely to inspect... More debris... More tuner cleaner, more inspecting, more dirt, or spraying and so on...

I started to feel real funny so I sat down in my chair and closed my eyes... The room felt like it was spinning with my eyes closed. I open my eyes and there were these distortions in my vision. I was really freaked out, it lasted for what I believed to be about an hour. But I didn't tell my grandparents.

That night after going to bed, my legs went numb and I really started to worry so I cried out for Grandpa.

I told him what had happened and he dismissed it as being nothing harmful, I should just go to sleep I will be better in the morning.

I was better in the morning, but remembering and looking back at it many years later, I was a student with pretty high grades.... But I remembered having issues focusing and my grades started falling off.

I consider myself pretty smart. Not a math whiz... Nothing like a physicist or anything.... But I do have, and have had for many many years memory problems.

If I go hands-on and do something, I can remember it. But if I read something I have trouble remembering it.

I have trouble with names. I have trouble relating faces to names.
I call people that I have known for years "bud or guy" or even "buddy" because I can't remember their names. I know them, I recognize them, but I can't remember their names.

I'm pretty sure that I accidentally huffed some sort of chemicals in that tuner cleaner that killed more than a few brain cells.

I knew a dude who was a bully to my brother, apparently he was a user of air duster. They found him dead one day, blue lips with blood coming out his mouth. That crap is so dangerous, it’s not like a drug they can counter with other things. No by the time they get to you in these bad incidents then it’s normally too late.

I find so much comfort in reading some of the comments of people talking about their experience about brain damage. I also went through something that to this day has me questioning myself and it’s something that has me conflicted.

My sister and cousins use to huff. They did it around a kid who also ended up huffing it since she was close to the paint. The girl was taken by CPS. But, will struggle her whole life because something adults did. It’s sad.

Just wanted to say thank you for this YouTube channel and the pop quiz you are doing asking people the right answer to medical questions. It's fun to learn and I've learned a lot from ya. Thanks again
