To summarise:
1. Junctions(Observations): Quickly look around. Observe carefully!
2. Mirrors (Changing Direction): Look in the mirror but also in front; Change what you're doing to suit what you're seeing.
3. Control (Steering): Steer at the right time, not too early nor too late.
4. Junctions (Turning Right): Check both directions
5. Move Off Safely: Check blind spots after stop
6. Positioning (Normal Driving)
7. Move Off Under Control
8. Response to Signals(Lights) : Know who is behind or around you; Get ready for change light.
9. Reverse Park(Control)
10. Response to Signals (Signs)

I failed 3 times because of misjudging vehicle direction and speed before entering a roundabout. Then I learned an important technique from my mum (who learned it from her father) about approaching junctions in a manual car; approach the junction in 2nd gear, as this slows your car enough that you can safely stop if the junction is busy, but also provides enough power if there's space to join. Approaching in 2nd slowed the car down enough for me to make correct judgement on the situation, which is what let me pass on my 4th attempt. Fast forward 2 years later, and I haven't had a single accident or collision. As depressed as I felt after failing the 3rd time, now I'm grateful that they held me back as because of this, I had more time to practise and became a safer driver.

I passed my car test in 1977 and my class 1 HGV IN 1997, I believe that a lot of drivers just make the car go forward. They reactively drive rather than proactively. Never looking beyond the car in front of them. Thanks for the video, Ashley, I'm sending it to my niece who is learning at the moment with Carl.

The problem problem is when Instructors get powerful desiel cars that are hard to stall then when people pass they can’t drive

I passed my test first time, just passed my 1st year of driving I forgot about your channel. Helped me pass and without any minors too. Thank you for making the videos you do, looking back they were a massive help.

'It's not about manoeuvring, It's about observing."
Well said. I took a few lessons before Covid and haven't since then. I will try and keep this in mind at all times while driving including on the test 𝘪𝘧 I'm ever able to book it.
Great video. You are truly appreciated.

its awkward to admit but after over 15 classes of driving a manual this video showed me why i kept stalling at red lights, my test is tomorrow for gods sake

Thank you. That was extremely informative. You delivered the tuition in a more understanding way than my instructor. You've not only calmed nervousness but you have increased confidence in the sense I worry too much about the nack of driving as opposed to safety and observation. Many thanks. Great tuition.

I passed today with 7 minors. I want to thank you for all the help you've given me, I've spent ages going over your videos, and I wouldnt have passed without them! Again THANK YOU

watching this after passing my test, and during my test towards the end I was behind another learner also doing their test and they didn't stop at a STOP sign near the centre and didn't overtake a cyclist when a VERY VERY safe gap arose not surprising to say they failed, I got 3 minors, 1 for gears because I lost 3rd gear on a hill and 2 for speeding slightly at 32, 31 and bringing it back straight away. I’m 17 and just as nervous as the rest of us, but if there’s any advice I could give someone would be, don’t be nervous (easier said than done, yes) but you should be excited about the opportunity to drive alone and have your licence, have clear mind only focusing on driving for 40 mins and its really easy, i promise😊😉

This old video just popped up. Not normally one to hold a grudge, but still annoyed about my first test after 25 years! I don't think I did anything wrong, and a believe I drove better than on my second test when I passed. I think I was just the victim of a miserable person having a bad day. I was always told if I failed I would be told why, he just said "you failed to reach the required standard, that is all. I need to tell you" .

It was only when I pushed him he said, failure to maintain progress. He then gave two examples, doing 40 on a national speed limit road. It was a narrow road, too narrow for two cars to easily pass. There were no cars behind me but we encountered a few commitments othe way, and it was raining. Not only did I think it was a safe speed, but the limit was reduced to 30 a few months later. The second incident he mentioned was getting stuck behind a parked buss. I was in the left hand lane on a dual carriageway doing the limit of 30mph (really should be a 40 for most of the road but it isn't), other cars were flying past me on the right probably doing about 50. I came around a bend and over a bridge with a slight hump and found a bus parked (not at a bus stop). As everyone was speeding past and nobody let me out it took several minutes (it seemed like hours) for a safe gap to pull out.

I tried to explain these points and he said "if you were at the required standard you would better understand what you did wrong".

My second test I made a catalogue of small mistakes put still passed.

I really enjoy your channel! I live in the U.S., but just watching this episode, it all boils down to experience behind the steering wheel and that comes with time. I learned driving a manual transmission and for the record, I hate parallel parking and will walk a mile out my way, just so I don't have to do it!
