Dead Ink, HP's Kill Switch, remotely disabling an Ink Cartridge.

A quick take on an article that caught my attention last Friday. I’m not sponsored by any company or service I talk about in this video. I personally wouldn’t care about printers and ink; but Printing problems have been one of the more common issues I would get call about. 6 out of 10 times The issue was a dried out ink cartridge. When I would tell my clients their response would be “I just paid 60 bucks two and half months ago.”
Out of all the strange equipment I’ve owned. A printer was the one thing I ever regretted buying. I only got it because my mom insisted it would be useful for school. Only 2 prints in the 3 years It was hooked up, and then 9 years in a box in the closet. Never owned one after that.

A new format and plans to be more proactive on my channel. Less planning and more doing.

My HP is just sitting under my desk unusable. After you cancel their subscription to buy regular ink it's like the printer won't even work anymore because you're not on their subscription plan. A whole scam. Now I'm on the internet trying to figure out how to just use regular ink from the store in my printer.

I would be happy to help you. Based on what you have mentioned, it seems that you have already paid for ink cartridges that have printed over 700 pages. However, HP is stating that even though you still have ink left in the cartridges, you will need to pay an additional cost of $0.10 per page for any pages printed over the allowed limit of 200 pages per month. Essentially, you are paying for the ink but won't be able to use it all unless you pay for extra pages. "I find it absurd that I can't use the remaining ink in my printer unless I purchase more pages. I have already paid for the ink and the paper, and I own my printer. I fail to understand why they are monitoring how much and what I print."

I spent too much money on the printer… I did a factor reset and went into printer settings and turned off some of the options… and went on Amazon an purchased from a refill company. Works fine now. I’m in tech support but GOOGLE and YouTube are your friend… don’t lose your money by letting it sit there if you paid more than $35 for the printer.

You forgot to add that the user pays for their own paper and therefore the subscription tiers tied to pages per month have absolutely nothing to do with the ink refills and are artificially created by HP to milk consumers. Let's say their cartridge prints 170 pages before empty... well since the printer relays that info to HP regularly, it should simply send a signal to send you a new cartridge and bill you when you get to 10% ink remaining and not worry about how many pages you've printed. This is one of the dumbest and poorly thought out schemes to get revenue out of customers and many of them will be ditching HP altogether I'm guessing.

I tried this service not realizing that it is a scam. I printed my address on 500 envelopes. It was just my address. It wasn’t much ink at all and then they charged me like $200 saying I went over the “page limit” I didn’t even know there was one. Now I’m looking for a way to reactivate my ink without them knowing

Do you think hp has kill switch for printer as well? Two printers got bad without any bad experience.. One day each one was working fine and next stopped. Currently on third hp printer

How about having a "Return Your Useless HP Printer Day"? Select a day for everyone to ship useless printers to HP Corp office. Maybe their top dogs need a useless paperweight for their desks. Seriously.

Seems obvious to me that nobody in their right mind would subscribe to Instant Ink, especially knowing that some HP printers ONLY work with internet. This is a classic setup for these issues you are bringing up. Just do the minimum of what is needed to get the printer to print, and go out and get the ink yourself. That's what I did and am reasonably satisfied so far.

Yes you need internet wireless because it will not print. If you go over the number of "pages per month", they will change your charge from 2.99 to 5.99 or more with NO WARNING. This company gives no fucks about their customers other than squeezing every cent out of them.

Printer was kicked off my when hooked back up to my wi-fi, instant ink, which I canceled 4 years ago, took over my printer and disabled my HP ink I get off amazon, I can see their counting my pages, only way to print is get instant ink call tech support four times to no avail with a lot of confusion. I hate that printer when it works, it's good but I feel violated to disable my instant ink, all phone calls I made to them sent me in circles until I called my Visa to cancel instant ink from charging me. I'm so angry at them
