Ty. I make $33 hr for mig welding which is unheard of anymore so I got it pretty sweet. Ty for informing people. Everyone thinks welders make a assload of money when reality it’s not bad but not great either

That's only a lot of money if you have consistent work. Getting paid that much doesn't matter if it's not consistent work

I know a guy that’s a structural welder and he makes 120 I’ll see where it’s coming from he’s just taking averages out of the places he’s worked he’s not wrong he’s just not 100% right because some people can get better jobs than others

The average income in my area is 30k a year. Sw Pennsylvania. If you can make 20 bucks a hour welding here your doing great. Some areas are dirt poor.

Most guys don’t realize though yes you make good money but you also spend alot on your tools truck and machine and remember you always need a back to everything even a rig

I work with AIT Welders on navy ships and it ranges from $25 to $50. Potential per diem for travel as well and also ovetime most of the year.

That’s why I’m training with ABC and SOWELA in high school as a pipe welder and so far I’ve been in there for 2 years

I do boiler work in SW Georgia, here $25 is the top of the totem pole.

Depends on which state you're working in. 20 years ago I might've been able to get $12 an hour in Florida, in the Miami area.

Where i come from a welder is a welder, trained in all aspects of the trade craft and paid as such. Once they start cutting up trades into categories you know its only to pay you less. Get the ticket then specialize where your talent takes you. They’ve cut up a pile of trades in Canada to do the same.

Welded 16yrs of my life on bridges. Tied rebar for many years along side of that. From 100’ below to 100’ up. Made great money. Now I’m 36yrs old with multiple ruptured discs in my back with 35% total damage MMI. I will never strike an arc again. My knowledge of the bridge dies with me. Such a shame

I was an apprentice and worked for Ironworker local 433 Los Angeles/Vegas and was making 33/H and half the welders were pissed I was making that much lol this was 2007 before ressession

All the structural welded I know with certs and history left the job in the last five years in the north east. Funny was all of them went into phone sales first (7 people in total!). Four stayed there, one went back to bartending, two went into insurance and investments.

While I think welding needs to be taught by more and a part of any basic homeowners knowledge set and any highschool education, it's likely not going to pay well in future unless we move back to 1920s coach built automobile things or something fun.

Heck. Bespoke tig welded furniture would be a huge kick.
