Really like your tone — advising against what some other handlers do without throwing personal shade. And just saying “mistakes happen, do you want that to be you.” Being experienced without grandstanding. Makes me want to watch you more!

I kept tokay geckos many years ago. They are a lot of fun - their attitudes make them entertaining. They are also easy to feed since they are apt to consider almost anything a threat and chomp down on it, and then they will swallow it if they figure out that it is food. Bites from these lizards are no joke, so if they must be handled, it is best to wear thick gloves. They bite down hard and latch on, and it isn't easy to convince them to let go.

As a venomous keeper I can say free handling is insane. There are no benefits for you or the animal either and the risk is just too much. I use hooks and that’s it 😅 it’s boring but safe👍🏻

My Chameleons were kept in small potted trees in a dedicated room. When I would walk up to my Pardalis they would reach out to get onto me even after I fed them. I did hand feed them. I miss them. My Johnstoni did too. Such wonderful animals!

I must say I’m impressed that you are able to keep coming up with video ideas having to do with keeping reptiles for having your channel as long as you’ve had.

In WW2, my grandfather kept a chameleon having had a nasty run in with some ants in the medical tent (he was posted in North Africa). When asked about the war, he'd just get this far away look in his eye and, faced with the horrors of conflict, would just say "George (the Chameleon)... well... he wasn't very friendly."

It’s so cool how the little guy just hangs out with you it blows my mind the relationship we can build with an animal/ reptile 😊

Your chances of being killed by a crested gecko are low, but they are never zero.

Awww...my tortie loves to be cuddled! (I hold her on a puppy pad in a baby blanket.) She loves laying on my chest and either falling asleep or just sprawling out and staring up at me. If I get busy and don't make time to hold her, she won't eat until i do hold her a while.

I recognize that she's an anomaly though, and I love that she's such a lovable outlier! ❤

My tokay gecko Cuddles likes to hang out on the door to his enclosure and it makes giving him water and everything else difficult. I feel like I'm taking my life in my hands haha - I accidentally sprayed him with the mister one time and got squawked at lol

Number three is interesting. I feel like, based on what I’ve witnessed, many people underestimate turtles and tortoises and their bite potential. My family had an outdoor Russian tortoise that was quite “cantankerous” but not really aggressive. Very social. Didn’t let anyone who’s out in the yard go unnoticed. Anyone barefoot or wearing sandals would be at risk of toes getting bit. But he wasn’t “mean” or begging for food. He just was NOT shy in the least. And this is where people can have lapses in judgement—when animals behave more uniquely or differently than expected. Seems like most people know this with mammalian pets like dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits, horses, and even w birds, to not to underestimate their different personalities. From one dog or cat to another can be like a totally different being.

I dunno, people think tortoises are so slow, then they get way to close to their mouths when hand-feeding them, scratching their chins, which causes them to retreat into their shell. Stress. Even a gregarious tortoise like ours was not gonna allow that. Much like a cat, social contact was on his terms. Granted, the second you walked out onto the grass, he would be bounding towards you. Faster than any tortoise I knew of! Not even for food (he had food) but just to see “what’s up?” And sit on your shoe. Friends got too close to his face; then they almost got bit. People underestimate those jaws, or that “beak”, really. If that’s what it can be called… tortoises have more of a beak. It’s more blunt than on an aquatic turtle —doesn’t mean shit! Still look at the mouth of a terrapin, a softshell or a slider: looks like an upper and lower razor.

Dude. You got my whole household into herpatology! There goes my wallet! I love our baby corn snake named Buddy. Someone should have warned me that reptiles are an addiction.

Nile monitors would be good for your list. Mine got over 4 feet long before I finally sold it. He would bite, tail whip, scratch, musk or all of the above. He was a cool lizard but very ill-tempered.

I would definitely be interested in the most handleable list! Nice to see the opposites and what recommendations/precautions you suggest 🙂

When I saw the title, I assumed Diamond was going to get at least an honorable mention for all the ear biting...
