If you're looking for a more unique bearded dragon maybe you should look into the super common and amazing Uromastyx. These African lizards like it very hot and dry and are absolutely amazing pets! Maybe a species closer to home? Chuckwallas enjoy many of the same things bearded dragons do with no bugs to be fed! These Lizards are great for warm and dry climates! Ackie monitors are super popular and for good reason! These monitor lizards stay small and aren't too hard to care for. Collared Lizards are smaller but with very bright and vibrant blue coloring. Of course clown agamas or painted agamas are similar but smaller and a great lizard for handling!

What is YOUR favorite species of lizard?

Bearded Dragon. We're a retired empty nest couple and my wife absolutely loves him, far easier than a dog which would be fairly taxing energy-wise. Perfect for us, really don't care about being perceived as a herd member.

I love how your not villianizing beardies, there’s tons of people who don’t properly treat beardies, you gave few options that are easier for people who don’t like bugs! Definitely support you ☺️

I got my ackie monitor in October, I absolutely love her. I wish you would have highlighted a bit more just how intelligent they are! She is so inquisitive, and much more active than a bearded dragon, where my beardie used to spend a lot of time basking in one spot, my ackie is always up to something! I think the most intelligent thing she does, is when hand feeding her, I can tell she takes special attention to be careful and not bite me, which opposed to when I tong feed her she is much more ready to attack! I like to spread mealworms throughout her enclosure, it is so fun to watch her forage around, smelling them out with her forked tongue then digging them up for a tasty snack.

I have three Beardies and they're the most loyal, sentient pets I've ever owned. My male beardie, Gizmo is more loyal than any dog or cat I've ever had. He even licks my tears when I cry! They're the best, maybe I'm lucky when it comes to the dragons I got, but they are there for me and I haven't even trained them to. They have no rules and act as if they're trained. Idk what I did to deserve such perfect lol cuties.

Glad you're thinking of getting a clown Agama, they're really underrated. One aspect I think they dont get enough credit for is they're often beautiful and show a huge range of colors. They can go from tan to black, and their back pattern can change from light pink to bright orange depending on their mood.

My bearded dragon was AWESOME !! He used to crawl up my stomach and nestle his head into my neck and go to sleep !! I was devastated when he passed away !!

Fun fact: Arizona is home to the two largest lizards in the US (if you don't count the escaped tegus in Georgia)! Gila monster and the Chuckwalla :)

If you get lucky and end up with one that decides it likes people, Ackies are kinda like a 12 week old puppy that never grows up. Mine's either eating, looking for food at 90 mph, sound asleep basking, or following me around (doesn't matter if he's in his enclosure or out, if I move, he follows). He even seems to be conscious of how hard he bites, because he goes after his food like an absolute savage, but play fights with my hand, and does these little death rolls to my finger tips without ever leaving a mark on me.

Just a heads up: the added texts and names and such are being covered by the cc’s. It was a bit of a pain in the butt to have to turn the cc’s off and on again and to pause the video every so often. So accessibility wise it might be nice to place the extra info a little higher, depending on what you’d like aesthetically of course

went to my local store, who are absolutely amazing, yesterday with the intention of putting a banana pied ball python on hold as my daughters early graduation present. Well he was sold the day before 😪 but we did find a new baby Zero Morph Bearded Dragon. He's a solid slate grey color with no pattern. Absolutely amazing!!! He comes home in a month!!!

I only have a beardie because someone found her in a horse pasture when it was 40f and raining. She is a lot happier now.

Bearded dragon is still my favorite species of lizard. Have one as a class pet. He is absolutely amazing. Ended up rescuing two more because of him. Best thing I have done for myself and for my classroom, ever.

Chuckwallas used to be around in the 1980s and are so cool. I don’t know why they disappeared but I never see them now. I remember them being great pets.

I'm officially a mealworm breder. I used dry coco fibre with some cork bark as well as spinach and cucumber and now I have lots of little mealworms

Northern blue tongue skink. I can't get enough of these guys. They eat a little bit of everything, they have interesting personalities and they are super fun to watch stomp around their enclosures.

I think frilled lizards definitely deserve a place on this list. Just got one and I think they're everything you could want out of a dragon. Not sure how common they are in the american pet trade though.
