The most powerful scene in Balto, and one of my favorite scenes ever from an animated film. Hopefully you all enjoy!

If you happened upon this video--Hi! This was uploaded to my channel YEARS ago, before I started focusing on making actual content. I've kept it here all this time because it's been a joy to see so many people leave comments talking about how much this scene--and this movie--means to them. Balto is one of my favorite films of all time, even now that I'm almost in my 30s, and I'm happy that so many of you have enjoyed it just as much as I have. Reach for the light: you might touch the sky!

"Let me tell you something, Balto. A dog cannot make this journey alone. But maybe, a wolf can."

Movies like this make you realize just how important a quality musical score is to tapping into the audience’s emotions. James Horner is sorely missed today

What I love about this is they don't spoon feed you anything. What is the white wolf? Is it real? a spirit guide? Who knows? Who CARES? The scene is a beautiful moment of a character accepting a part of himself he always shunned and kept hidden, because it made him an outcast, but finally realizing that what made him different also made him strong. It's a scene that gave me chills when I first saw it as a kid and it still gives me chills now, when I'm nearly in my 40s. Thank you for leaving it up for us to enjoy!

Balto taught me to never give up and to be proud of who you are,
Simba taught me to fight for my friends and family, no matter how hard it is,
Spirit taught me to fight for what I believe in until the end.
What would we have done without these amazing movies to grow up loving? <3

They just don't make movies like this any more. Once upon a time it was true art. 💚

The White wolf scared me as a kid - that creature looks more spiritual than animal so congratulations animators you did your job! I'm an awe of her animation. Very majestic and very mysterious. The white wolf looks more ghostly than natural.

I became an artist because of Balto - I was known during elementary for doing beautiful aurora paintings, being able to draw a wolf skeleton by memory, and draw Balto by memory too.

I became a writer because of Balto - my stories being jump started by fanfiction.

I became a wolf activist because of Balto - learning of the cruelty humans did to the wolf throughout history, driving them to the point of extinction, all because they wanted to make an extra buck.

I became a singer/voice actor because of Balto - I wanted to make the perfect wolf howl.

Balto changed me great and small, it was this movie, this scene which put me on this path.

One of the messages I believe this scene teaches is that you have to face and accept what you truly are. Only then, when you've stopped running and hiding from it, can you find the real power inside of you.

Am I the only one who bursts into tears whenever I watch this scene?

Probably...

Twenty years later and this scene still gives me chills. My take away on this isn't so much finding who you truly are but finding the inner strength you need to never stop fighting for those you care about. Such a beautiful scene

I like to use this sentence “A dog can not make this journey alone, but maybe a wolf can” for my own life: If I keep on being someone I’m not, behaving, talking and living like someone that’s not me, I won’t make it. But if I’m truly myself with all my flaws and strengths and the honesty and love it needs, I will take this life and make it my own again.

How the original film "Balto" (and the director of this movie) intended:
Balto's father is a wild wolf. Balto's mother is a working sled dog-husky. The mysterious and ambiguous White Wolf from this powerful and awesome scene is Balto's inner wolf and manifestation of his inner voice, the metaphore and the symbol.

People say tv has no impact on kids. I find that so hard to believe. Balto and spirit was the only movies i had as a kid and i watched them probably a million times. I know they had some impact on my development. Espically balto. You can be given wealth, talent, accessories and ease but you cant be given a righteous heart with an unbreakable spirit that comes from building character through adversity. Luckily, that is all you need in this world to succeed. Im living proof. The "carhartt" kid who never had any shirts but his brothers too big and faded carhartts.

I like to think that this is like the scene from The Lion King where Simba sees his father in the clouds. In both scenes, the character is actually looking at an unacknowledged side of himself, represented by another character. That's why the white wolf gives Balto the cold shoulder at first. She's willing to ignore him because he's willing to ignore her, and she only comes back after he acknowledges and accepts his inner wolf.

Never try to blend in with everybody else; you should embrace your differences and use them to your advantage. Such a powerful moral. :'3
