You won't have enough wire from the client side and usually you just need to buy a new wire

This is awful advice the short is at the connector, you just reused the problem so it's still there.

I tried similar fix but my phone charges way slower...no idea why but my only explanation is some sort of black magic the manufacturer put in it

Id say as I seen 2 videos I like quick repairs but you cloud re open a thing n repair the wire on the spod many cable addapters use click on cable connectors you pre cut the wire put it in a plastic peace put it onto another press in and copper leads are been pushed true the cable isolation into the wire seal the top like that after and be stronger tho same to the electric plug tho and also the little bend stoppers are usually glued to the top of the wire not hard to re use
