How To Upgrade An Old OG Xbox Softmod To The Latest Rocky5 Variant

In this video, I will take you through the process of updating an old OG Xbox softmod. Newer softmods can have extra features such as Xiso loading and better compatibility with Insignia. If you are still using an older softmod, the update process is pretty easy and well worth it!

Great job. I somehow screwed up and I'm gonna try the burnt extras disc fix before the full eeprom restore. Of coarse this is the Xbox I'm currently upgrading everything. So one tiny hiccup is to be expected. Nothing ever goes easy.

Thanks for this! I got an Xbox from goodwill for 20usd with no cables. Tested it out at home and realized it booted to xbmc. Almost wanted to start over cause there's a ton of junk. Later noticed my perfect looking mech assault copy I bought a year ago doesn't boot, nor do I have a 4gb usb. Found a blank DVD and burnt the iso. Couldn't get it to boot past it stating the bios. Would get a black screen. I loaded the preloader and was able to boot to a certain app off the disc then back out to the appropriate menu. Worked like a charm! Just need to upgrade the storage and get component cables and I'm set 😁

Burning iso to a dvd works too (i had to use a dvd cause my xbox wouldn't read that iso when i burned it a cd, )

I was running EvoX before I did this and after I was done everything seems to work fine except all my games disappeared. I wish there was a mention of this in the video.

when I load the burnt cd into my xbox it says unofficial/hacked bios mode. There's no menu for me to upgrade old softmod

Is this possible for a broken disk drive? I softmodded my xbox without the drive, and I even upgraded the harddrive. But my harddrive bork, so I put the original back which has the older rocky5. I don't even remember how I did the upgraded drive which had the modern Rocky5.

Is there a way to do this with a usb drive? My dvd drive isn't working and my old xbox is also on xbmc. Have no idea how to update it rocky5.

I burned the disc, but whatever softmod I have installed won't see the disc. I checked the drive with a game disc, and that worked fine. Any thoughts?

I have a question, I tried this about 2 years back with the softmodding tool and it would give me a bios error, don’t really know what to do either, bios also shows up as unknown on the evolutionx menu.
