A capsule wardrobe is a collection of interchangeable items that can be mixed and matched to maximise the number of outfits you can create from a relatively small number of clothing items. The concept gained popularity in 1985 with Donna Karan’s first capsule wardrobe collection. It included a bodysuit, a skirt, tailored jacket, a dress, a white shirt, and a cashmere sweater.
There are so many benefits to having a capsule wardrobe. Fewer wardrobe options means having to make less decisions. This will save you both time and money. This can also help you gain confidence, and feel like you dress as your ‘best self’ more often. You will probably change your habits to shop more intentionally, making fewer shopping mistakes.
Defining your style is really the best place to start if you want to build a satisfying capsule wardrobe. If you cannot find your personal essential basics, it’s going to be impossible to narrow your choices down for the outfits you will love.
To create your own capsule wardrobe, take stock of what you own. Examine the clothing, shoes and handbags you have, and decide which truly represent you. I can guarantee that you will have more success with your outfits if you begin to focus on the narrow.

I’d love to see a closet tour since you don’t change over your wardrobe each season. 🙏🏼

Suddenly had an aha moment - I couldn't make 5 outfits for different occasions/events! All my clothing is either super casual (ie. wouldn't leave the house) to work appropriate without anything for outside those parameters that would feel like 'me'. That is a hugely helpful tip, thank you!

I've hit that stage where I have a full wardrobe of 'used to wear' clothes that just don't feel like me anymore. Combine these with the 'comfy but frumpy teacher clothes' section and I now struggle with finding something a little more stylish to wear out and about. Time to roll the sleeves up and purge methinks!

I am from Germany. My cousin drew my attention towards your channel and I have been enjoying it ever since (with all its iterations!). I’d love a video about the qualities of (mostly natural) fabrics by the way. Thank you for lighting up my middle of the week ;-), Laura

Canadian here :) I’m always so jealous of people who live in more temperate climates. I have 6 coats/jackets and 8 shoes/boots/sandals alone! All have a specific purpose. Living vicariously through you!

Just an Aussie 🤷‍♀️ I’m old enough to be your mum, but you have taught me a lot about style. You do a wonderful job of promoting our beautiful country too ❤️

Watching from Germany, discovered your channel few years ago when the minimalism "trend" started, where most of them were throwing out 90% of their wardrobe to buy items for capsule wardrobes... I love the approach you have to fashion, style and a small wardrobe compared and in general the way you create and cut your videos ❤

Here from NE PA. Have loved watching your style evolve. Created a capsule wardrobe while my things sit in storage. I found I still feel most authentic in styles and natural fabrics I loved in my 20's. Thank GOD fashion is cyclical. Loving my corduroy blazer and denim shirts. It's motivated me to work out again too.

Great video. U.S.A. All your videos on seasonal reflections work for me as you give me something to think about as I head into the opposite season. Thank you!

Watching from the countryside of Pennsylvania. I always enjoy your content. You helped me realize how important fabric content is in comfort. Thank you for inspiring me. Love your style! Is it me, or is Gary getting cuter?

Bought a rather expensive leather Longchamp bag in a bright blue that goes with nothing. Have not used it. However, I keep telling myself I will use it as a pop of colour

I am all about color! My method is to keep all my colorful items in the “dusty” range for that color. That way they all are interchangeable. Another trick is to have some warm and some cool colors. My warms and cools *can* be mixed and matched, or for a more “quiet” look, I pair the cool with cool and warm with warm. My staple colors are brown and cream instead of white and black. This rule allows my staples to always be able to mix with my colors

I am originally from Germany but have been living in down under for a few years now. Best thing that happened to my wardrobe is following your channel ❤️ a video on fabric would be amazing!

I love that your videos don't have music in the background. It is so hard to find videos that have the content I enjoy that don't have music. Thank you.
