Capsule wardrobes are popular for men because men don't usually love to shop: they want to buy clothes as infrequently as possible and own as few items as possible to get the maximum benefit and longevity from their wardrobe. I get asked all the time what I would buy/wear if I could only pick _one_ boot or _one_ jacket, so I made this video to help point guys in the direction of some really versatile pieces.

The peacoat is a fantastic choice because it can really be dressed up or down. I got one off eBay for $75, then had it dry cleaned (and examined for moth damage by them) and then had the sleeves shortened. All in all (after cleaning and alterations) it was around $150 for 100% Kersey wool and the lining was perfect, and it still has the sailors’ name in it! Really love it

Essentially this, but changing the silhouette to Japanese City Boy wide and boxy or the shoe to dad sneakers has kept me versatile enough to go to work, hang with the 20-somethings, and still stay comfortably within the “eccentric grandpa” vibe I want to be in

Happy New Year, Nick! Thanks for a year of great content! Looking forward to what you do this year. Great capsule, Nick! I think since you already had blue covered in the chambray shirt. I would’ve swapped the blue oxford for a white one and probably gone with a different color for the flannel to have something fun to switch things up with maybe a red or green flannel (both of which go well with a white or blue t shirt IMO). Also, since you already have loafers which can dress up an outfit I would’ve gone with a moc toe or service boot but that could be a bit better in rain and muck. Only thing I would’ve had you didn’t is a hat! It’s not versatile but for me it’s a ball cap haha

Leather jacket (Schott), boots (Viberg) pea coat (Schott but preferably weatherwool), also the AAJ from weatherwool, chore coat from railcar, flannels from railcar, Schott, (old)Woolrich & RRL, & finally some chambrays from railcar& Heatstraps. I’m only able to get Schott and Viberg through their factory and sample sales that they hold annually in NYC since I live in the area.

This is a really helpful video! What's your view on swapping the suede boots for leather boots, say in dark brown? Worried about suede in wet weather, but do leather Chelseas work with the more casual outfits?
