The iMac is dead, buy this

Now that there’s a more powerful M2 Pro powered Mac Mini, it’s looking like we might not see the 27” iMac again. If you’re shopping in the Apple Store, that will cost you. But we have a solution.

Purchases made through some store links may provide some compensation to Linus Media Group.

Losing the 27in was a loss. Most creatives I know had one for the home office setup.

My office had about 7 $5, 000 USD iMac Pros. It was painful to have to dispose of them because we switched our creative team to MacBook Pros and the iMacs could not be reused as displays without taking them apart. Even if it's uglier, buying discrete components makes much more sense in the long run, for nearly every type of consumer, than using an AIO.

I know that after that experience, I will never endorse buying an all in one again, unless there's a very specific commercial use (think point of sale terminal or something consumers don't care about).

I’ve been using the PA278CV, the slightly lower powered version of this monitor for about 2 years with my intel MacBook Pro. It works wonderfully, and for the price I paid for it, it was an absolute no brainer.

I am too poor to understand anything of this.

The most expensive single piece of computing hardware I've ever purchased was a 27in iMac. It makes me sad that the current "all Apple" option is significantly more expensive than it needs to be. I also don't understand why they can't just enable target mode on the ones that have TB3. It should be possible, they just.. don't.

I still use a 27-inch iMac for video editing, and it is a pretty powerful machine. I wish they still made them :)

5:59 That is magical, it's like turning the petit Mac mini into a sort-of tower, and all the accessories line up so well underneath it 🤩🤩🤩

mac minis keep their form factor so all the companies making racking solutions for them don't need to retool, and all the equipment rooms using them don't have to buy new racking kits as part of the upgrade path.

I swear, I'm not really an Apple guy at all, other than using an iPhone, I don't have any other Apple hardware however, I watch every single one of these Mac Address videos. Horst's presentation style always just has me wrapped and I can't look away. Good job MA team! Keep up the great work and interesting content!

The design isn't tired, it's timeless and classic.

I have swore by Asus monitors for years, I have tried nearly every category of Asus monitor they have and all of them are great. Also the only Touchscreen that works well with a Mac is an Asus VT229 and I have 3 of them in my audio live sound rig as control surfaces connected to a Macbook Pro M1 max.

I have a 2019 27" iMac with Core i9 which I bought with minimum memory and upgraded to 64GB because it was so much cheaper to do it myself. Still runs great, MacOS and Windows in VMWare Fusion.

Give me the rumors a while back, I’m surprised they never updated the higher-end iMac. Even with the separate monitor solution mentioned in the video, Apple could’ve done a whole lot better (as shown by Asus). For one, no 120Hz or HDR are glaring omissions at that price.

I have a similar monitor and that single-cable USB-C charge & video thing is absolute gold IMO. Being able to connect your mac with 1 cable is something I would never have expected. Then I use my macBook pro as a 2nd smaller ultra-hi-res monitor on the side. It's a great setup and very reasonably priced.

I prefer the reduction on cable mess that the iMac originally brought to my computer desk when I switched back in 2007. Over that time I had two iMacs, a 24" which is still running with another family and my most recent 27" (2013) which recently died. I had been holding out hoping for a new 27" iMac to appear but finally was forced to order a machine. I opted for the MacMini with the M2Pro and the Apple Studio Display. I agree with a lot of your thoughts here and decided that given I got nearly 10 years out of my last machine a bit of a splurge wasn't a major issue.

Still using my ASUS ProArt display from almost 10 years ago, excellent monitors. (I have newer monitors, but the ProArt is still excellent, and I use it for TV/Film work still).

Won’t lie this felt more like a ASUS ad than a mac review

Dear MacAdress, please make a video about the native “retina”-scaling and why 4K is a bad idea. To get the moast out of your display when using a Mac mini or Mac Studio, you need to drive a 2k or 5/6k display. This is really interesting. I researched ALOT before I bought my BENQ 27 2k-display for editing video. And it is awesome!

The absolute dealbreaker for the studio display for me is a singular usb-c port for display input so it’s only for one device. That’s ridiculous especially given the price.
