Aero Is Everything: The Specialized Wind Tunnel

Watch as months of construction at Specialized headquarters is condensed into just over a minute.

Drag is the single biggest force affecting a cyclist, and since the only way to turn it off is to stop moving completely, eliminating every bit of it is critically important. In fact, it's so important to us at Specialized, we've taken the next step in the evolution of our aerodynamics program.

WE'VE BUILT A WIND TUNNEL.

Why? Because now our team controls everything. By bringing all aspects of the aerodynamics process in-house—the CFD software, on-bike data acquisition, and now the wind tunnel as the final piece of that puzzle—we're empowering our team to drive aero forward, in new and innovative directions.

Is wind tunnel test is done only as head wind blows? Because it would be quite insane, cause cyclist faces not only headwinds, so bike should be aerodynamic from sides too. But maybe it is just my opinion.

The faster you get the less you notice any other wind than the one hitting you from the front.

The bike sits on a turntable. I'm sure they can rotate it for yaw tests.
