Subaru has finally unveiled a true Subaru Tecnica International (STI) version of the WRX, breaking its nearly three-year stance that such a model would not be possible. The 2025 WRX STI S210 debuted at the Tokyo Auto Salon, marking a significant shift in the brand’s approach. Subaru previously cited stricter emissions regulations as the reason for shelving the idea, but it seems the tide has turned for fans of the performance-oriented sedan.

The S210 is a proper Subaru Tecnica International creation, described by the company as “the pinnacle of STI complete cars.” It is based on the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) WRX S4 STI Sport R EX but comes with several performance upgrades. Its 2.4-liter turbocharged gasoline engine has been reworked to deliver 296 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. While this represents a boost of 25 horsepower and 19 pound-feet of torque over the standard WRX in the United States, it still falls short of the 341 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque offered by the S209 that was launched in 2019.

Unlike the S209’s six-speed manual transmission, the S210 features the Subaru Performance Transmission, a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that Subaru has branded with an exciting name. The added power comes from a revised exhaust system, optimized intake ducts, and updated engine control unit (ECU) tuning. Maximum power is achieved at 5,700 revolutions per minute, with peak torque available from 2,000 revolutions per minute.

The upgrades extend beyond the engine bay. The S210 rides on 19-inch BBS forged wheels paired with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires and features front Brembo brakes, electronically controlled dampers, and a transmission fluid cooler. The exterior is enhanced with a carbon fiber rear spoiler and black accents, giving it a sportier and more aggressive look.

Inside, the sedan features eight-way adjustable Recaro carbon bucket seats, red seatbelts, and plenty of piano-black trim. A serial number plate confirms its exclusivity, as only 500 units will be produced. Subaru plans to open orders this spring, and although pricing has not been revealed, the rarity and extensive upgrades suggest the S210 will carry a premium price tag.

Stop saying this is a proper STI, not even close. 65k for a CVT, less HP than civic and gr Corolla, less hp than the s209, Subaru execs clearly don’t know their own customer base. Repeatedly showing this is annoying.

The Japanese have completely lost their minds. A Japan only VB STI with only a CVT. Must be something in the fish they're eating.

Who ever forced the engineers who know the only people who are going to buy this thing want it in manual to put a CVT in it, you deserve 5 years of hard labor

Guys, do not sell your sti.
This is the result of alliance with TOYOTA.

Ew, not really an STI with the same engine as the regular VB, just some bolt-ons and tuning. Worst of all, a CVT; gross. I'll stick to my regular VB with a 6MT.

While I think this car looks decent, the reduction in HP and the lack of a manual transmission is crazy.

Hopefully they make another version for the US market with manual transmission.

Looks nice, with 400hp and a 6 speed it'd be a real hit.

Literally could give 2 shits that this comes with the SPT (fantastic transmission btw) since not only do other great sports cars have autos but we will never ever be able to get this unless you have 80K plus to burn. Seriously looks amazing

Did I hear front brembo? FRONT brembo? Only front?

Outside of the wheels and seats, this is a serious let down…..

stop calling this a limited edition. 500 of this crap feels like 500k of them. Make like 30.

Wow Corvette - Mustang and Porsche all have CVT using different wording - personally if your in a great deal of traffic every day or a track driver the cvt comes in quite handy - I hope Subie makes a 300 hp Outback with either an automatic or cvt myself and I’ll wait for the STI round 28 hope it has manual or cvt as an option
