I've a 5-6 year old bag of fleece, free from a friend who shears sheep. They were not intended for the wool market, just regular sheep so it costs more to shear them than their wool is worth, and even trying to process it would cost more than they'd get for it, so it's literally garbage wool.
Started cleaning a batch at the time but it was so humid here that summer, the whole backyard stank of sheep. Never got back around to it but now I know a lot better on how to process it.

And the truly unusable bits can go to garden mulch. I won't try to save them, I know better now. I can get unlimited free wool, I don't need to be stingy. At worst, I've got 3 sheeps worth of felting ball bases to layer other, nicer wool on top of (for needle felting)

How does 100% Suffolk feel close to the skin? Also have you experienced 100% shropshire?

I have a 11 yeah old one my pop shaved the sheep for me when I was born and I don’t want to clean it because I feel it washes all the memories away of him 😢

Where do you get the raw fleece? And how much does it cost? I was interested in spinning versus buying yarn but wasn’t sure how cost effective and time consuming it would be.

Um, I think my oldest might be 10 or 15 years old, an alpaca fleece inherited from someone who hadn't spun it... I'm not afraid to scour it but I'm deathly afraid to spin it... So it sits unscoured 😭

Just a heads up, like many british place names, Suffolk's not pronounced how its spelt. Its Suff-uk. Sort of like how youd pronounce the world folk, but with a softer o sound.
