The Moldovan breakaway region of Transnistria has asked Moscow for protection. The pro-Russia separatists accuse the pro-Western Moldovan government of waging economic warfare gainst them. Tensions between the two neighbours have been rising ever since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The self-proclaimed Republic of Transnistria is a tiny sliver of land located between Ukraine and Moldova - and falls within Russia's sphere of influence. It broke away from Moldova during the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s, but ISN'T internationally recognized.

Here we go again - this playbook is like a broken record.

Isn't this how the Russo-Ukrainian war start? A bunch of separatists ask for help, then the tanks a few months later come in into the non separatists regions on a "special military operation"?

Moldova should be supported in offering Transnistrians transportation assistance to Russia. Go. You want to be Russian, go to Russia.

According to Russia every country in Europe is within "its sphere of influence".

Why are they complaining about "economic war"?
They separated to be independent and wanted to unite with ruszia. Well, they got what they wanted 🤔
No one owes them any economic cooperation

If the US goes to "protect" Iraq so why not Russia goes to Moldova?

I don't see that Russia is currently capable to invade Moldova from Transnistria with the troops they currently have there. To do this, Russia would have to transport more troops, vehicles and equipment by plane, which would certainly be shot down. Since 30 years Transnistria is asking Russia constantly for „protection“ - it’s not a new thing. I also think that Russia has always been quite happy with the status of Transnistria being a pro-Russian unrecognized country - it’s the best place for Russia to do dubious businesses and money laundering.

If there's anything we learn from this whole mess is that never let your enemies hold a large concentrated of their population inside your territory.

Beware if you have any Russian neighbors. They might want to be protected too.

This is the Chamberlain effect here. When will Europe stand up to Putin.

This is a Russian operation. Interesting this comes after Macron's statements regarding sending troops to Ukraine. Question is how Europe/NATO responds if Russia escalates into Moldova.

Pls, why can't we just be let alone, in peace, we did nothing wrong ever, why Russia always wants to destroy my country? It's not the first time!

I am more interested to know and see will Europe (as political entity) react properly, no matter what Putin does, or just will stick it's head in to the sand as usually.

I am from Moldova, let me explain.
We do not want to escalate Transnistrian conflict, you need to understand that there lives a lot of Moldavian citizens, this is part of our country but today's reality is that there is a "kind of government" that controls region.

We are modifying a lot in our country to fit EU standards, that's why they asks for "protection".
