Pro-Russian separatists in the breakaway Moldovan region of Transnistria have appealed to Moscow for "protection". Moldova rejected the "propaganda statements" and said Transnistria "benefits from peace, security and economic integration" with the EU. Transnistria convened a special congress – only the seventh in its history– amid a deepening dispute with Moldova over customs duties. Earlier, Moldova President Maia Sandu said that Moldolva could press ahead with its bid to join the EU without Transnistria. Russia’s Foreign Ministry said that “protecting the interests of the residents of Transnistria, our compatriots, is one of our priorities”. The special congress convened amid fears Transnistria could open a new flashpoint in Moscow's conflict with neighbouring Ukraine. Watch this video to know more.

What has CRUX forgot to say is that in Cobasna ( Transnistria ) is the largest ammunition depot in Eastern Europe with over 20, 000 tons of Soviet-era weapons

If they are voting to be part of Russia, why not let them? Isn't democracy the most valued thing for Westerns? Or is it only valuable when it aligns with their interests?

I'm amazed Transnistria has stayed out of the conflict thus far.

Moldova is not part of the EU. How can Transnistria benefit "from peace, security and economic integration with the EU"? (0'38") I fail to understand the subscript as matters stand today.

Transnistria was Russia for 1000 years only because of Stalin it become part of Moldova Soviet Republic and only under condition that Moldova is part of Soviet Union.

Transnistria better be quiet. Either side of it can take it in an hour.🤔😂👍🇺🇸

When the USSR was in the process of breaking up, there was a referendum in Moldova that voted heavily in favour of remaning part of Russia, (I have been told and believe, the same was true in most other parts of the USSR.) which result was ignored. Transdneistria, was part of the USSR, BEFORE Moldova was taken over by the Soviet Union at the start of WW2.

Moldova will regret not to take Transnistria now the Kremlin busy in Ukraine. Sooner or later the same fate as Ukraine when people in Donbass ask help from Russia same as this one which would trigger a possible war which is Special Military Operation. Moldova must abandon its plan for Transnistria if they don't have a guts to retake it now as PUTIN said "We have the rights to defend a Russian speaking people in that area DONBASS and TRANSNISTRIA".

non, no, no, it is not Russia's duty to protect all separatists here and there. I, as a Russian citizen, want to make it clear: Russia’s in enough international conflict already responding to the callings of separatists from Donetsk and Luhansk and should not send our people to die for separatists. Russia’s responsibility should be to its own citizens, not separatists here and there. To all separatists: we do not want to die for you, we don't owe you anything, leave Russia alone
