Great job explaining this. Ive seen others take 15 minutes to explain and still walk away not understanding. You explained it perfectly so one can easily duplicate the process. And great tip on the audio recording that would have slipped my mind.

I'm still a little confused. I get the slomo part, but what if you have a 24p timeline and a 60p clip that you want to play back at normal speed (not slowmo) and if you're using Plural Eyes and editing in multicam in FCPx, show to resolve the issues of variable frame rate clips (like a screencast clip) and audio drift issues (if you didn't know to record the audio at the same frame rate as the camera during pre-production setup)?

life saver !! Literally nobody has explained this! they all just say drop the 120fps clip into a 24fps timeline... I did exactly that and still noticed my footage looked choppy as hell at a normal rate. Thanks! I now know you I need to go to 80%

Dude....this was really good and so well explained too. Never thought about doing the actual calculator thing but makes sense. Appreciate it.

Your explanation at the beginning is very confusing. What do you mean at the 1:00 mark when you say "or you can double it up to 80% in order to play back at 24 fps?" 80% of 60 is 48. If you slow it down 40% you get 24 fps. Where does this 80% come in? I've watched numerous videos on this subject and never heard that. Thanks.

Great video. If there isn't already one out there, I think you just gave some developers an idea for a frame rate calculating app.

Such a great explanation... well done!

In FCPX - Can't you can drop it all into a 24fps timeline (24, 60 & 120) and it will all play in real time. To slow down a clip (if the clip is above 24fps), you can just drop it in the same 24fps timeline, highlight the clip and just hit "Automatic Speed" and it does all the calculation for you.

In Edius you can simply in properties of the clip set what is your desired frame rate and it will automatically slow down/speed up video to set it right... I work at national television quality control check for outsourced video contributors (documentaries, series, reportages...) and I can tell you that wrong framerate converting is most common error for refusing materials... And people often argue with me that there editing software can work with any framerate and that we are stupid... But you clearly explained problem with different frameratea... Tnq

Thanks for this video and the info !!!
Just before your video I've watched a similar video from a different guy. Yours is far far far better; you talk slow and show examples and calculations.
Thanks again!

i don't understand about the half speed. How is 40% half speed and 80% real time? 40% of 60 is 24.

This will help me in getting slow motion without stuttering. Makes sense now. Thank you !

I finally understood it! Thank you so much!

What can be done on music videos when musicians are playing parts of the same song but their videos are different frame rates. Altering the duration of their videos is not an option or we would no longer be in sync. What happens when exporting the final project say at 30 fps? Then there is the issue of audio drift.
