I've spent way too much time trying to understand this dilemma, your video is direct and to the point! Finally, I can shoot video with confidence that I'm using the appropriate frame rate for the task! Yeah, came over from still photography and am slogging through. Thank you for all your awesome videos. Keep up the great work.

Thanks Jason. You’ve managed to clear up this somewhat confusing subject. Now I finally get it. Being an audio guy myself it’s great to get direct and helpful video
information.

Many thanks - you cleared up a few questions I had. But what about bit rates and what is the relationship between frame rates and bit rates?

It's worth mentioning that drop-frame formats (23.976, 29.97 or 59.94) are hold-overs from older synch technology, and reasons to use them are disappearing. If you don't need to synch multiple cameras or audio using SMPTE time code, sticking to a non-drop frame format (24, 30 or 60) can make the math a little easier when timing keyframes, etc.
In neither case are frames of video dropped when mixing footage of different formats. Time code is simply a way of assigning an identifying number to each frame of video. Footage of different formats can be safely combined within a project without frames being lost. Non-linear editors are smart enough to accommodate the differences.

Great I started my new channel. I have been studying your video deeply. This is Uncle Stew from "Uncle Stew The old man on the block" we spoke on the phone too. Can't wait to speak with you again. Again thank you so much.

Amazing video! How do you go about rendering multiple timelines in different resolutions/fps? I have insta 360 footage, mavic pro 2 and regular cell phone videos that I want to bring together. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Frame rates drive me crazy! One day it will click in my head, and I'll get it. Till them I'll stumble through it, and some how output video that works, but I don't understand how I got it right 😉 As I've said before, your videos are my go to for advice. Jason, you are my DaVinci hero!

Great video! Frame rates always confused me, especially that pop-up asking if I wanted to change it.

So I have a big question regarding folks like me who record all their content on their phones. Do you know if it's possible to change the frame rate on a cellphone? Or am I stuck with whatever frame rate the phone records? If I had a real camera I could probably figure it out, can't afford a real camera right now. Not even a used one. (Well, I could if the landlord wasn't so insistent on getting rent from me every month.) I realized that not every phone is the same and that this is probably a big ask. But if you do know a way that might work, I know I'd be grateful.

Thank you.😮
