In this video, we’re going to talk about the relationship between bile acids and cholesterol.

Bile acids are made by your liver and the friendly bacteria in your gut.

75% of your body’s cholesterol is made by your body. This means that only 25% comes from your diet.

Many people freak out over dietary cholesterol. However, your body is your primary source of cholesterol.

Bile acids are the primary pathway for cholesterol catabolism. Catabolism is the breakdown of complex molecules into simple molecules. This allows your body to utilize cholesterol and turn it into things like vitamin D, cellular membranes, hormones, and even bile.

50% of your daily cholesterol turnover (the rate of being depleted and replaced) is controlled by your bile.

Bile salts also regulate your LDL to HDL ratio. In fact, bile can lower your LDL levels and increase your HDL levels.

If you lack bile on a low-carb or ketogenic diet, it may cause increased cholesterol levels.

The benefits of bile salts include:
• Regulating cholesterol
• Breaking down fat-soluble nutrients, including vitamins A, D, E, and K.
• Regulating essential fatty acids
• Promoting liver health
• Supporting healthy vision
• Regulating bruising

Thank you so much for this. I’ve had high LDL cholesterol for a few years now but this is the first time I’m ever learning this. I really wish I’d been taught this beforehand

Every time I see you do a video on this topic it reminds me of when i started having constipation problems 2 1/2 yrs ago. I saw two different GP's and both said my cholesterol was way too high and I would need meds to lower it. At that time my poop was kind of grayish and floated and I actually found what looked like a stone in my poop. No one would listen to anything. Just wanted me to increase my fiber intake, put me on cholesterol lowering meds and of course do the colonoscopy because at the time I was 52. When I started bile salts it helped tremendously. I had to change the way I eat too because I think that was contributing to a low functioning liver and gall bladder. I still have some issues with this but it was only after watching one of your videos on this topic over 2 yrs ago that set me on the path to wellness. Thank you Dr. Berg. 💖

cholesterol is eliminated via bile (same as hemoglobin). olive oil, especailly together with some herbs or spices and garlic, is very helpfull to improved bile flow and clean gall bladder. and don't forget that peristaltic motion of bowels (respectively defecation) stimulates bile flow too (that's why fiber helps and constipation sucks)! bitter spices are good for gall bladder too. they are usually used in some kind of alcohol beverages like martini, campari or becherovka or so. you can use it to your advantage or make your own herbal maceration. good beer with hop is probably best thing for cleaning gall bladder and promote bile flow (and not just that). there is quite a lot of spices or herbs which can help to certain point as for as gall bladder health and bile flow. i would like to mention two of them. first is turmeric (curcuma), which is quite famous and cool today. it has a lot of qualities and one of them is connected with gall bladder. second herb i want to mention is not so known. it is marjoram. you can use it in your meals or you can make herbal "tea" from it and use it in the morning on empty stomac or half an hour before meals. it could be good herb to use during fasts too (rather during short ones or first days of longer ones). and last but not least i want to stress that radish is one of the most powerfull things as for as gall bladder and bile flow. it can even disolve gallstone...

Watching your videos, have allowed me to lose 2 stone, now I am being motivated for the next 2. It is the only healthy eating plan (keto) that works for me, everything you say makes so much sense. I may get a lecture for this but I fall asleep watching You Tube - Dr Berg channels of course LOL - also learning so much about my hair loss alepecia, gall bladder, fybromyalgia, arthritis Two months of following Keto I feel more awake, more able, and positive. So HUGE thank you because what you eat clearly makes a HUGE difference.
