So you probably think the Brave browser is pretty cool, huh? I like the Brave browser but after years of using it, it's hard to ignore some of the flaws of the browser. In this video, I'll explain why I stopped using Brave, my biggest annoyances and complaints regarding it, and what I recommend to use instead. If you liked the video, feel free to donate your hard-earned BAT!

I almost never have websites break due to shields. And with the few that do break, you can turn shields off with a single click on a per site basis. This problem is way overstated.

I always used Firefox. It's annoying to know that everything is now made from and for Chrome. Actually, it's scary. It's healthy to have another good browser there together with Chrome and that's one of the reason why I keep using Firefox. It can't die. Be Brave, Firefox! 😊

"we can't talk about brave without talking about crypto"

Yes the hell we can. I get annoyed whenever I try to talk about Brave to anyone and they scoff because crypto. I literally never even think about the BAT system except when somebody brings it up as a complaint about Brave. I know for a fact it comes disabled by default. You have to push a button to enable it. Just don't push that button and use it like a regular browser

The pros are vers high than the cons... You can turn off most them from the settings or don't care about it... Personal YouTube/website without ads is a huge plus...

The current Brave's adblock engine is based on Rust and multiple benchmarks have proven it to be slightly better than the king of ad blockers i.e uBlock Origin(both in speed and efficiency). Also by the way, the adblocker not blocking ads like on youtube, has been completely fixed now(I also had the same issue earlier).

Sometimes you still need a chromium based browser, especially for manual testing since Chrome is the default, but I've found Chromium behaving too weirdly with the dev tools, needing to constantly close them, and this issue isn't recent, that's why I prefer to use Brave

i never used the crypto aspects of brave, what brought me to the app was the adblocking and tracker blocking, the private tab, the background video playback feature for my phone so i can play anything running it in the background while i use other apps or even turn off my screen to save battery.

but i never really got into the crypto stuff because i saw the same issues as you did with the crypto being tied to uphold and gemini as government owned and i agree that it's not really private being tied to these services.

i still use brave as a browser though because the adblocking and tracker blocking, but that's it really.

regardless your choice, i'm just glad people are using adblockers in general, i don't care which ones you use for whatever reasons, just so long as you are always using an adblocker of some kind i'm happy others get to feel the freedom that is to block the ads on every website out there.

Brave Talk is one of the main reasons why I probably won't be able to quit the Brave Browser. It's a game changer to me.

I don't like to have phone calls and video calls are even more awkward, so I never even bothered to use Skype or Zoom. I'm not a total recluse though and when my friend gets drunk and calls me on a friday evening, all I need to do is to open a new tab, generate and send a link, which takes him straight to my Brave Talk session on whatever browser he prefers and we're good to go.

I can easily switch between voice or video call, I can stream a song from my music player or play a YouTube video on his display and if he behaves well, I can grant him permission to control it.

No extra apps or plugins required, no signing up to anywhere. No wondering about which app or service can do all of this or whether it's drunk people-friendly or not.

Just started using Brave after muddling through with Firefox for years. Swapped back and forth with Chrome because Firefox often failed me in spectacular ways (mostly with "new" technology like U2F keys, and the inconvenience of not having PWA support), but on Android that meant web browsing was painful. Settled on Brave, but I've got a list of 20 or so changes I make on every install where I disable or workaround the annoyances listed in this video (which actually helped me find a few more, thanks Eric!). With those changes, Brave is the most usable browser I have on both desktop and mobile. NOTE: BAT is the main reason I steered clear of Brave for a long time. I thought it was at best... empty calories, at worst a potential vector for compromising my privacy. Disabling it is the first thing I do on every new Brave setup.

I love Brave and never had any issues on PC. The only problem I've got is on the android version... It doesn't have extensions. As far as BAT, Crypto and wallet, Id never even think of using them. All the other options in settings I setup once during initial setup and that's it, its good to go.

A big thing you seem to always gloss over is what types of websites YOU are using. If you only ever talk about youtube then the information you are providing about websites breaking is essentially useless.

every 'problem' in this video was optional things that you can turn off with a click of a button

It's a little strange video. Most of these are small nitpicks that you only have to deal with when installing brave once every few years or so (disabling said features). The only real complaint is the shields, but in the extremely rare cases that there is some problem with the website I can just quickly turn them off so it's not a big deal.

I started using Brave a couple months ago. The main attractions that got my attention was the privacy aspect and supporting something new and innovative not to mention one of the founders was the creator of Java script yes? BAT attracted me a lot for one I love anything crypto and it was a way to utilize a token in this case Tipping and supporting content creators. I want to do all I can to promote this industry. Good point about uphold or Gemini didn't see it that way when I connected. I guess there are always trade offs. Thanks for making this content I appreciate you. 60 year old man trying to keep up.

Brave also runs it's updater 24/7 even if you never actually use the browser.
