It has been a couple months since I made the first Why I stopped using Windows 10 video and I wanted to do an 2019 update on this. I have been on Linux for the past couple months and boot up Windows 10 everyone once in a while and have compiled 8 more reasons why I don't like it. Windows 10 declining in market share due to these issues.

1. Windows Updates
2. Windows Store
3. Notification Bar
4. Security Center
5. Safe mode removal on boot
6. Security
7. Bi-Annual System Upgrades
8. File Sharing

Switching to Linux Overview
30 Day challenge and beyond
-Notable Obersvations
**Most things works with tinkering, but some information is not well layed out.
**So much more stable and not as "update happy"

Conclusion
Don't be tied to one operating system and learn about your options. This can be Mac OSX, FreeBSD, or Linux, but don't just settle for Windows.

Debloat Windows 10

It's really insane how good Linux is while being completely free

Windows really, honestly feels like a Spyware .... With XP and 7 I never had the feeling. I just did my work.

When *I'm* forced to interact with a Windows machine, I want to tear what little hair I have left out. When I retired from a 20 year career as sysadmin, I moved my home systems to Linux, having been a Linux fan since the early 90s. As far as I'm concerned, the ONLY way to win with Windows 10 is to NOT USE Windows 10...

Does Linux have a desktop environment that comes with Candy Crush preinstalled and, if removed, will reinstall itself after an update? Nope! I think I’ll stick to Windows, thank you very much. Candy Crush should be compiled into the Linux kernel, or at least systemd.

Fifteen months ago, I had never even opened up a computer case... technology scared the crap out of me... but I loved what it could do! Now, I've built two brand new Linux computers from scratch, regularly install new operating systems onto a hard drive just to check them out... and I'm having a ball learning to do everything! Once I actually started using Linux, I hardly ever went back to my Windows computer except to use one program that I hadn't quite managed to replicate well enough in Linux (I have now though lol). When I put Mint Cinnamon on my first new computer mid 2018 and realized it was a keeper as a daily driver, I stripped down my old Windows computer and modernized it up with a nice Linux distro and gave it to my brother to use and have fun with. Windows sucks... long live Linux lol.

Microsoft treats your computer as theirs.
I use to have a computer repair shop, and #8 Viruses was my bread and butter, and these were people with anti-virus running.
One thing you didn't cover is that Microsoft restricts the owner of their own computer from hidden directories and files, like these files belong to Microsoft. They also tell you to get a hold of your administrator, when it is your machine. I get that Microsoft might not know this, but at that point you are normally locked out of taking care of the problem. Linux on the other hand doesn't do any of this, and in root you have full access to your OWN computer.

so weird how microsoft has resorted to doing things and tactics that would normally only be done by malicious websites and malware.

17:57 Really hits home with how my grandma browsed the web. Would go fix her computer several times a year, and every time with a bunch of new toolbars and sketchy programs installed. Installed xubuntu for her one day (after asking and explaining what it is), set it up to look like windows, messed around with some printer-drivers and never had a problem since. One of the best decisions of my life.

Excellent point that telemetry is not only unethical, it’s also massive bloat.

Switched to Mint a couple years ago at work for most workstations, I find windows search, superfetch basically power eating, cpu wasting services that don't do much for most people but generate waste heat and frustration for users, the whole concept of cacheing every file in the user profile... Why, just why!

As for my personal home use I only boot into it to update Windows or to remember the current changes when walking people through how to fix windows crash of the week...

The main reason I stopped using Windows is because I was too lazy for the dual boot, I got rid of my windows partition because of that. I still have a windows machine in my laptop as I need it for visual studio but other than that? No reason to use it.
I might miss some of the games that only work on windows but those are getting fewer and fewer.

Viruses usually get in your computer because the users themselves install them. The difference is that the average linux user has more knowledge about computers than the average windows user.

Steve Jobs once said to Bill Gates that Apple OS is the best operating system (between Windows and Mac OS). Gates replied "Windows doesn't have to be" (the best, since I've got all these contracts with IBM PC clone makers and thus will dominate the market). This was basically true at the time and obviously Gates took this idea to heart by being OK with producing a significantly inferior product ever since. I rationalized moving to 7 since it was about as close to an intuitive OS as Msft had put out only to watch them scrap it and sabotage it for 10. On a scale of 10 to the worst mess posing as an OS it is properly named. One note about the virus issue; I consider W10 itself to be a virus.

I had Windows 10 back in 2015 and 2016, I'm never going back. I'm going to use Windows 7 until I buy a new computer and I will switch to Linux.
